Auspice
The Garou live in constant duality — beings of both Rage and spirit, bound to the worlds of human and wolf, feared as monsters yet sworn as protectors. Their lineage is tied not only to Gaia, their great mother, but also to Luna, her sister and another spiritual benefactor.
Soon after their First Change, young Garou learn that @Luna grants them unique strengths based on the moon’s phase at that moment — their @Auspice. This moonsign shapes their role, temperament, and responsibilities within Garou society. At the same time, they also discover their @Tribe, a cultural family bound by a Patron Spirit. Together, these two forces — Auspice and Tribe — define a Garou’s spiritual heritage, social role, and personal path.
Not all are so fortunate. Some endure the First Change without guidance, awakening to their power without knowledge of Luna, the spirit world, or a tribal community. These lost ones often meet violent ends before they can find a place among their kind.
An Auspice is more than a birth sign — it is a calling. Luna’s phases embody archetypal roles within Garou culture:
Ragabash (New Moon) – The trickster, skeptic, and challenger of norms. They question authority, expose lies, and uncover hidden paths. Misdirection, subversion, and cunning are their weapons.
Theurge (Crescent Moon) – The mystic and spirit-walker. They commune with the Umbra, interpret omens, and mediate with spirits through ritual and wisdom.
Philodox (Half Moon) – The judge and keeper of the ways. They preserve Garou customs, arbitrate disputes, and maintain balance within the pack and sept.
Galliard (Gibbous Moon) – The storyteller and herald. Through song, tale, and performance they preserve legends, inspire courage, and unite the People.
Ahroun (Full Moon) – The warrior and defender. They embody Luna’s martial fury, leading charges, striking down foes, and protecting pack and caern alike.
Each Auspice is honored for mastery of its craft. Moots often showcase these talents — galliards enthralling with tales, theurges guiding rituals, philodox settling disputes, ragabash revealing clever truths, and ahroun rallying warriors.
