Bone Gnawers

The Unseen and the Unheard

The Bone Gnawers are the pariahs of Garou society, but they are also its most vital intelligence. They are masters of the overlooked, the forgotten, and the discarded. They exist on the fringes of society, moving through the cracks and shadows that the powerful either ignore or avert their gaze from. While other Garou might focus on a glorious fight or a noble cause, the Bone Gnawers are looking for secrets—the passwords, shortcuts, and dirty truths that lie beneath the surface of civilized life.

This tribe has always gravitated towards society's outcasts, from the transient populace and crust punks to the impoverished and forgotten. They are the ones scavenging at landfills, blending in with the homeless, or getting drunk with a touring band. The rest of the world looks away from them, and that is their greatest advantage. It allows them to witness the backroom deals, the illicit exchanges, and the corrupt politics that sustain the powerful.

There is a long-standing debate within Garou society: were the Bone Gnawers always at the bottom, so they adapted to find a way to survive, or were they so good at finding secrets that "polite society" cast them out? For a Bone Gnawer, the answer doesn't matter. What matters is that they get the job done. They are adept at skullduggery and surveillance, using their ability to go unnoticed to gather the critical information that other tribes would never find. While some Garou look down on them, the wise leaders know that without the information the Bone Gnawers provide, they would be fighting blind.

The Patron Spirit of the Bone Gnawers is Rat, a figure that is often present but unseen and sometimes unwelcome when his presence is known. The alliance with Rat is an uncomfortable one for some of the more prideful Garou, but its effectiveness is undeniable. Rat and his tribe are associated with Honor—an ironic connection to some, but to the Bone Gnawers, honor is found in loyalty to one's pack and in using hard-won knowledge for the good of the tribe. Rat's cleverness lies in seeking out those who are overlooked, turning the castoffs of society into its most valuable assets.

A Bone Gnawer's Favor from Rat is the ability to discover things others fail to spot, and to use that knowledge in creative ways. They can add a bonus die to any pool used to find something lost or overlooked. However, Rat's Ban is strict: if a Bone Gnawer passes up a significant opportunity to help the disadvantaged, they can only recover a single point of Willpower at the start of the next session. This ensures that their mission is always tied to their community and their commitment to those on the fringes.

Whether a Zine Raconteur with a nose for neighborhood news, a Sound Tech who learns secrets while working behind a mixing board, a Friend of Ours who trades favors to build a network of informants, or a Gig Wheelman who overhears critical conversations while driving people around, every Bone Gnawer is a master of their craft. They are the unnoticed eyes and ears of the Garou, proving that true power doesn't always come from strength or glory, but from the dirty secrets found in the shadows.
