Kin
Kin — A werewolf who has not yet been accepted as @Garou; one who is unaware of their true nature and has not undergone the Rite of Passage or formal recognition within the Garou community. This term also includes family members (like children) who can not turn into a werewolf, but carry werewolf blood in them. And it refers to human lovers and companions who are resistent to the effect of the @Delirium. Also known as Kinfolk.
For most Garou, non-shifting relatives are not discarded; they’re seen as valuable and even essential. These family members are immune to the Delirium, which makes them safe companions and trusted confidants in a world where most humans must be kept ignorant. They can act as safe contacts, information sources, caretakers for cubs, or guardians of territory in human society.
However, they are also fragile in Garou eyes — vulnerable to the Wyrm’s corruption, human laws, and mortal dangers. Many Garou adopt a protective (sometimes overbearing) attitude, sheltering them from supernatural conflict. Some tribes, like the Children of Gaia, treat them as equal partners in the struggle, while others, like the Red Talons or Cult of Fenris, may push them toward proving their worth in more physical or dangerous ways.
In more militant or traditionalist septs, non-Garou relatives may be kept at arm’s length to avoid distraction from the war or to prevent secrets from leaking. The harshest Garou might see them as a reminder of “wasted blood” — not enemies, but disappointments.
Still, in most cases, Garou feel a deep, instinctive loyalty toward their mortal kin. Family is sacred — whether they share the Change or not — and harming a Garou’s loved ones is one of the surest ways to provoke a deadly response.
