Śikṣehel, Archdemon of Knowledge

Śikṣehel, Archdemon of Knowledge, is a calculating and meticulous being, aligned with Hell yet maintaining a careless neutrality, focused almost entirely on the acquisition, preservation and study of all knowledge. Drawn to Gnossienne for its unparalleled nexus of spiritual, primordial and newly emerging energies, he recognized the city as a perfect location to collect information spanning every plane of existence. Though not outwardly malevolent, cruelty is never far from him, especially when insulted, opposed or when conducting one of his experiments, but it is always precise, deliberate and in service to the expansion of understanding. Śikṣehel is willing to share his knowledge with those who seek it, though half of the time at a steep price, whether in service, devotion or sacrifice. His cult, Cognitionem Hauriens, was instrumental in shaping the intellectual infrastructure of Gnossienne, constructing a sprawling, ever-expanding grand library and temple connected to the labyrinthine tunnels beneath the city. Within this complex lies a vast basement of archives, where both forbidden and sacred texts are preserved, cataloged, and studied, allowing Śikṣehel and his followers to monitor and accumulate knowledge of the entire city and beyond. His followers often wear crowns of candles, some letting them burn down to their skulls and repeatedly renewing them, signifying devotion and the constant illumination of thought. Those closest to him are granted both power and physical transformation, taking on aspects of Śikṣehel’s form: a crown of perpetually burning candles circling an exposed brain, marking their elevated status, while lower-ranking followers may bear a single, larger candle atop their heads. Śikṣehel himself is a large humanoid male, with the head of a horned cyclopean skull, jagged and angular like a crown of bone. His single, enormous eye has a purple iris, blue sclera, and a distinctive plus-shaped pupil, conveying both focus and ominous intellect. The top of his skull is missing, revealing a brain circled by melted wax and eternally burning candles, the front candle bases adorned with finely cut amethyst gems. His dark blue robes are etched with ancient runes and symbols, each carefully inscribed to enhance his understanding and power. Every detail of Śikṣehel’s form exudes authority, intelligence and the relentless pursuit of knowledge, making him a figure both revered and feared by mortals, cultists and deities alike.
