Petrans

Core Concept: Master engineers and miners who inhabit colossal, mobile asteroid-fortresses.
History & Culture: The Petrans abandoned their ancestral homeworld eons ago, finding its gravity well and limited resources too confining. They took to the stars, carving out new homes in mineral-rich asteroids, which they eventually fitted with colossal engines. Their society is built around the Clan and the Forge. Each "Clan-Hold" is a sovereign nation, a masterpiece of engineering that wanders the cosmos in search of new resources and trade opportunities. Their craftsmanship is legendary; a Petran-forged starship hull is said to be nigh indestructible.
Place in the Universe: The Petran Clans are fiercely independent, but their primary business partners are in @The Syndicate of Mercane. They supply the Syndicate with untold tons of refined ore, rare crystals, and the most durable starship components money can buy. They view the Imperium as overly bureaucratic and the Concordance as impractical idealists.
Adventurers: A Petran on their own is a rare sight. They are often on a mission for their clan: a prospector seeking a legendary mineral vein, an engineer looking to "borrow" advanced designs from a rival, or a warrior exiled for breaking a sacred oath.
