Sol Invictus
Sol Invictus
"Justice is not a gentle thing. It is a star. It provides light and warmth to those who are worthy, and it burns to ash all that is corrupt. Do not pray to me for comfort; pray to me for the strength to withstand the fire."
Title: The Sun-God, The Unconquered, Lord of the Seventh Bulwark
Alignment: Lawful Good
Portfolio: Justice, Truth, Law, Civilization, Nobility
Domain: The Seventh Bulwark, Heaven
Worshippers: The Stellar Imperium (as the state religion), righteous kings, selfless judges, paladins, and the warrior-priests of the Legion of the Sun.
Doctrine & Philosophy
Sol Invictus is the divine embodiment of righteous law and the civilizing light of truth. His philosophy is that a strong, just, and well-ordered society is the only true shield against the endless chaos of the Abyss and the insidious tyranny of Hell. He believes that law without compassion is cruelty, but compassion without the strength to enforce the law is meaningless. The Godfall has severely tested this belief, forcing him to confront the reality that his righteous order was not enough to prevent catastrophe.
Appearance & Manifestations
In his true form, Sol Invictus appears as a towering, majestic humanoid figure forged from living starlight, encased in brilliant golden armor of impossible intricacy. His face is noble and stern, and his eyes glow with the intensity of twin suns. When he speaks, his voice is a chorus of trumpets and resonating chords. To his followers, he appears in visions as a benevolent, shining king, offering guidance and strength.
Plots & Goals in the Age of Challenge
Sol Invictus is a leader burdened by grief and immense responsibility. His primary goal is to hold the celestial order together in an age of shattered faith.
Holding the Line: His most immediate struggle is preventing the Vanguard Pantheon from shattering. He spends much of his energy mediating the bitter ideological divide between the "Hawks," led by The Sentinel, who resent the Accord, and the "Doves," led by The Verdant Mother, who preach adaptation.
The Imperial Question: While he is the patron of the Stellar Imperium, he is increasingly troubled by their methods. He watches the ruthless actions of figures like Grand Inquisitor Valerius Thane with growing concern, fearing that his followers' pursuit of order is beginning to eclipse their commitment to justice and compassion. He may be losing control of his own state religion.
The Accord's Burden: As a god of absolute law, Sol Invictus is cosmically bound to uphold the Kaleeran Accord, as it was brokered by the Elder Gods. This is his greatest internal conflict: his very nature forces him to protect the peace treaty that grants his brethren's murderers sanctuary, a duty that galls him to his divine core.
The Search for a New Sword: The death of the God of War left the Pantheon without its primary martial champion. Sol Invictus is now actively, if secretly, searching the mortal realm for a champion—a hero of unmatched valor and virtue—who might be worthy of Ascension, to one day be raised up to fill the empty seat on the divine council.
