The Verdant Mother

The Verdant Mother

"Every star that dies is a light I remember. Every world poisoned is a pain I feel. My children fight with swords and laws. I fight with a single, stubborn seed, and I have never lost."

Doctrine & Philosophy

The Verdant Mother's philosophy is that all life is sacred and interconnected through the cosmic web of the Great Bloom. She teaches that life, in all its myriad forms, is the universe's ultimate purpose, and that its defining trait is its ability to adapt, endure, and find a way to flourish even in the harshest conditions. She preaches compassion, healing, and a patience born from watching galaxies bloom and fade. Her way is not one of weakness, however; she believes in the necessity of "pruning" that which becomes a true, irredeemable cancer to the ecosystem, but only as a final, sorrowful resort.

Appearance & Manifestations

The Verdant Mother rarely appears in a simple humanoid form. She manifests as a force of nature itself. To her followers in the Concordance, she might appear as a colossal, world-sized tree whose branches are entire star systems and whose leaves are nebulae of life-giving gas. In personal visions, she may take the form of a serene figure woven from living starlight, alien flowers, and glowing moss, her voice the sound of a billion leaves rustling in a gentle, cosmic wind.

Plots & Goals in the Age of Challenge

The Verdant Mother is a gentle but unyielding force, working to heal a wounded universe and guide it back towards balance.

  • Tending the Wounded Cosmos: Her primary and eternal goal is to counteract the slow decay of the universe and heal the scars left by the Godfall. Her followers in the Veridian Concordance are her hands in this great work, terraforming barren worlds and seeding new life across the galaxy.

  • Leader of the Doves: Within the Celestial Concord, she is the heart of the peace faction. She tirelessly advocates for understanding and diplomacy, believing that another cosmic war would be the final death knell for the universe. This puts her in direct philosophical opposition to the hawkish ideals of The Sentinel.

  • The Abyssal Blight: Her most direct and ancient conflict is with the Prince of Undeath, Orcus. She actively works to counter his necrotizing plagues, sending her champions—Paladins of the Ancients and powerful Druids—on holy quests to cleanse afflicted worlds and restore the Great Bloom.

  • The Saiyan Experiment: She was the primary divine advocate for the Kaleeran Accord because she sees the Saiyans not as monsters, but as a new, terrifyingly potent form of life. She is fascinated by their raw Ki as a pure expression of the Great Bloom. She watches the young Saiyan Wayfinder, Ren, with particular interest, hoping that his path proves that the Saiyans' violent nature can be tempered and their immense life force can eventually be turned toward a more constructive purpose.
