The Wanderer

The Wanderer

"A map is a fine thing, but the best places in the universe aren't on it. A law is a fine thing, but the best moments in life are the ones that break the rules. Go. See. Do. The cosmos is a grand adventure, and your story is waiting to be written."

  • Title: The Smiling Scoundrel, Lord of the Uncharted Path, The Lucky Drifter

  • Alignment: Chaotic Good

  • Portfolio: Exploration, Liberty, Luck, Adventure, Self-Reliance

  • Domain: The Infinite Fields of Elysium (Specifically, The Wandering Stars)

  • Worshippers: Adventurers, explorers, rebels, smugglers with a heart of gold, and all who blaze new trails and chart their own course. He is the patron deity of the Star-Wanderer's League.

Doctrine & Philosophy

The Wanderer's philosophy is one of joyous, unbound freedom. He teaches that the greatest good is not found in rigid laws or grand designs, but in the courage to step into the unknown, the compassion to help a fellow traveler, and the wit to get out of trouble. He believes that a soul's true purpose is to experience the wonders of the cosmos, to write its own story, and to be the master of its own destiny. He despises tyranny and stagnation in all their forms.

Appearance & Manifestations

The Wanderer never appears as a king or a celestial being. He manifests as a fellow traveler, his form changing to suit the situation—a cheerful Wayfarer smuggler with a twinkle in his eye, a grizzled Petran prospector sharing a drink at a bar, or a silent Sylvansworn guide pointing the way through a dangerous forest. He is always depicted with a charming, roguish smile and eyes full of mischief and adventure. His presence brings an uncanny stroke of good luck.

Plots & Goals in the Age of Challenge

While the other gods mourn the old age, The Wanderer is invigorated by the new one. He sees a galaxy shaken from its complacency, a universe full of new challenges, new heroes, and new stories waiting to be told.

  • The Patron of Heroes: The Wanderer is the most active of all the gods in the mortal realm. He doesn't command his followers, but subtly guides them, leaving behind a cryptic star-chart for a Star-Wanderer's League crew, causing a keycard to fall into the hands of a rebel agent, or granting a smuggler like Jax Corr an impossible stroke of luck to escape an Imperial blockade.

  • The Divine Rebel: He is a constant, gentle thorn in the side of the other divine powers. He finds The Sentinel's grim seriousness tiresome and believes Sol Invictus is too caught up in laws to see the good in a little chaos. He is the divine force most likely to aid a hero who is acting against the will of another, more lawful, god.

  • The Saiyan Enigma: He is the only god who views the Saiyans with genuine excitement. He sees their relentless pursuit of a challenge not as a threat, but as a kindred spirit to his own love of adventure. He is fascinated by Mistress Zukini and her Outriders, seeing them as the ultimate explorers. It's rumored he has even appeared to Zukini in disguise, not as a god, but as a mysterious rival, goading her into ever greater and more glorious hunts.
