Wayfarers

@Wayfarers (Halflings)

  • Core Concept: The ultimate interstellar nomads, travelling in massive caravan-fleets, forever in search of a perfect home.

  • History & Culture: The Wayfarers' original homeworld is a thing of myth and legend, lost to some forgotten cataclysm ages ago. Rather than settling the first habitable rock they found, they took to the stars, and they simply never stopped. Their culture is woven around the ship, the family, and the journey. A Wayfarer "Caravan-Fleet" is a wondrous sight—a collection of mismatched, heavily-modified freighters, hydroponic domes, and cozy transport ships, all tethered together into a mobile town. They value comfort, community, a good meal, and the art of being overlooked. Their resourcefulness is legendary, and their ability to make any metal hulk feel like a warm hearth is a unique form of magic.

  • Place in the Universe: Wayfarers are everywhere and yet claim nowhere. They are the galaxy's great opportunists and traders, masters of navigating the gaps between the great powers. Their fleets are a common sight in the lawless outer regions of @The Syndicate of Mercane space, where they act as smugglers, information brokers, and merchants of rare goods. The Imperium sees them as a charming nuisance, while @The Veridian Concordance often trades with them for rare seeds and biological samples from their long journeys.

  • Adventurers: A Wayfarer adventurer is often a youth on a "wander-year," a rite of passage where they leave the fleet to see the galaxy on their own terms before finding a ship to settle down with. Others might be traders on a special mission, scouts searching for a new star system for the fleet to colonize, or the rare outcast seeking a new family among a starship's crew.
