Story of Goblins

THE QUEEN OF CARVED BONES

In the elder days before the Sundering, when the elven courts of Eldoria shone with unrivaled splendor, Princess Lyrianne Silverblood was celebrated as the fairest daughter of the forest realms. Her beauty was such that suitors came bearing treasures beyond measure, and wars were fought for her favor.

Yet Lyrianne found no satisfaction in her reflection. "What use is beauty," she whispered to the ancient trees, "when it brings only hollow praise and bloodshed? I would trade my face for the wisdom to truly see."

The forest answered with silence until the third night of the blood moon, when a white-eyed crone emerged from the shadows. "Beauty fades," the crone said, "but wisdom etched in bone endures beyond death."

That night, Lyrianne took up a blade of obsidian and carved the first rune of knowledge into her own cheekbone. She did not cry out as blood spilled down her perfect face. With each cut, her beauty diminished while visions of profound understanding flooded her mind.

For seven days, Lyrianne carved patterns across her flesh until bone gleamed through in delicate, precise patterns. Her once-golden skin turned pale as moonlight, her eyes developed their characteristic vibrance, and her royal kin turned away in horror.

Banished from the elven courts, Lyrianne gathered followers who sought wisdom over beauty. She taught them her blood rituals, showing how knowledge could be inscribed directly into bone and passed through bloodlines. With each generation, their appearance transformed further, until they became what other races named "goblins" – though they called themselves the Bone-Carved Nobility.

To this day, Noble Goblins wear their bone carvings proudly, each pattern a legacy of Lyrianne's sacrifice. They laugh at the vanity of elves and humans alike, for while others desperately preserve their fading beauty, the descendants of the First Goblin Queen carry their wisdom written in their very skeletons, visible for all who have eyes to truly see.
