The Styx Oath
The Styx Oath
In all the realms of Hellenara, only one vow holds true power — the Oath sworn by the River Styx. To speak those words aloud is to bind one’s soul beneath the gaze of Hades himself. No priest or witness is required; the river hears. So long as the oath is kept, fate itself leans gently in the mortal’s favor, granting subtle strength to their purpose. But should the vow be broken, a Stygian Mark darkens the heart — a cold vein of shadow that never fades. The Erinyes rise from the depths to hound the oath-breaker, and even healing light resists their touch until atonement is earned. Through service, penance, or judgment in the halls of Hades, the stain may one day be lifted. Yet none forget that a Styx Oath is no mere promise — it is the weight of the Underworld made word.
