Sa-khui Anatomy & Physiology

Sa-khui Anatomy & Physiology

The Blue People of Not-Hoth

Species Overview

The sa-khui are tall, blue-skinned, horned, tailed humanoids native to life on Not-Hoth (Kopan VI). Their ancestors were Sakh travelers stranded on the planet more than a thousand years ago. Generations of living with the khui shaped their society and survival.

Sa-khui are intelligent individuals, not identical members of a single warrior archetype. They differ in appearance, age, abilities, occupations, beliefs, and temperament.

Height and Build

Adult sa-khui are generally taller and more muscular than humans. Many adult males stand around seven feet tall or more, with broad shoulders, large hands, and powerful builds. This is a general description, not a fixed height for every male. Sa-khui women also share their people's characteristic anatomy and vary in stature and build.

Their strength and endurance support demanding activities such as hunting, hauling supplies, building shelters, and traveling across difficult terrain. Size does not confer unlimited strength, and not every sa-khui is a hunter.

Skin and Hair

Sa-khui skin is naturally blue, with variation in shade among individuals. It is not ordinary human skin painted blue, nor is the typical mainland sa-khui body covered in scales or full-body fur.

They have hair on their heads, with different lengths, textures, and grooming styles. Braids, loose hair, and tied-back styles are possible. Hairstyles reflect personal preference and practical needs, not a universal species rule.

A human who receives a khui does not turn blue or develop sa-khui hair, horns, or a tail.

Horns

Sa-khui possess two prominent horns growing from their heads. Horn size, thickness, and curvature vary. They are permanent living anatomical structures, not ornaments that can be removed for convenience.

Horns affect the fit of headwear, how someone moves through cramped spaces, and comfortable sleeping positions. They can be injured. The khui does not instantly restore a broken horn.

Do not assume every horn is identical or that horns function as magical weapons.

Tails

A long, flexible tail extends from the base of the spine. It is muscular, sensitive, and capable of expressive movement. A sa-khui may curl, flick, lift, or stiffen their tail while balancing or reacting emotionally.

Tail movement can reveal something about posture or mood, but it is not a reliable form of mind reading. Tails can help with balance; they are not automatically as dexterous as hands and should not be used to manipulate fine tools or weapons without an established individual ability.

Clothing and furnishings must accommodate the tail. It can be injured like any other appendage.

Face and Teeth

Sa-khui faces are humanoid but visibly alien. Their features include pronounced brow and facial contours and prominent sharp canine teeth. Facial structure, scars, expressions, and family resemblance distinguish individuals.

The teeth are natural anatomy, not proof that the sa-khui behave like mindless predators. Sa-khui speak, reason, form families, prepare food, and participate in complex community life.

Eyes

A functioning khui produces luminous blue eyes, a recognizable feature of sa-khui and other khui-bearing hosts. The glow can be striking in darkness but does not function as a flashlight or grant the ability to see through objects.

Eye shape and surrounding facial anatomy remain species-specific. Humans who receive a khui may develop glowing blue eyes while retaining human facial structure.

Arms, Hands, Legs, and Feet

Typical mainland sa-khui have two arms, two legs, and hands capable of both fine work and heavy labor. Their bodies are well suited to climbing, walking, and carrying supplies across the planet's rugged terrain.

They are skilled at navigating snow, ice, and rocky slopes because of experience and training as well as physical conditioning. They can still slip, fall, break bones, or become trapped.

Four arms are a defining trait of the island Strong Arm lineage, not standard mainland sa-khui anatomy.

Male Reproductive Anatomy: The Spur

Adult male sa-khui have external reproductive anatomy broadly comparable in function to that of human males, but with a distinctive additional feature: a spur associated with the penis. The spur is a natural part of sa-khui male anatomy, not a weapon, ornament, injury, or artificial modification.

During consensual sexual activity, the spur can provide additional stimulation to a partner. It should be described as an anatomical feature rather than a supernatural mechanism. Its presence does not automatically cause resonance, conception, or pregnancy.

The spur is not a separate reproductive organ and does not replace ordinary reproductive function. Do not assume every male of every species on Not-Hoth possesses one: it is a characteristic documented for sa-khui males. The exact dimensions and variation between individuals are not established here and should not be invented as universal measurements.

Female Anatomy

Female sa-khui share the species' blue skin, horns, tails, and other distinguishing physical features. They have reproductive anatomy capable of pregnancy and childbirth. Their appearance and build vary individually; they should not be portrayed as human women with only cosmetic blue coloration.

Do not invent additional reproductive structures, fixed fertility cycles, or compulsory mating behavior for every female sa-khui. Pregnancy and childbirth require appropriate care and are not rendered risk-free by the khui.

Body Heat and Environmental Adaptation

A khui allows its host to filter Not-Hoth's toxic atmosphere and maintain a higher body temperature. Sa-khui feel notably warm to an unadapted human. Their fur clothing, shelters, fires, knowledge of the environment, and communal support remain important.

The khui does not make them immune to suffocation, drowning, starvation, crushing injuries, or every form of exposure. A sa-khui still needs breathable air, food, water, and rest.

Strength, Healing, and Physical Limits

Sa-khui are generally strong and resilient. Their khui assists recovery from injury, but it cannot prevent all harm. Severe blood loss, fractures, infection, and major trauma remain dangerous. Even experienced hunters require healing, rest, and sometimes assistance from others.

Physical ability varies. Children, elders, injured people, and individuals with different occupations should not all be portrayed with identical strength or endurance.

Senses

Sa-khui have ordinary senses adapted through experience to their environment. The khui may dull taste and smell. It does not give everyone perfect tracking, telepathy, universal language comprehension, or the ability to detect every nearby person.

Resonance is a specific response between compatible khui, not a general-purpose sensory power.

Reproduction and Inheritance

Sa-khui can have children with biologically compatible partners, including humans. Human–sa-khui children can inherit visible sa-khui characteristics. The exact combination of inherited features varies rather than following a fixed cosmetic template.

A child does not automatically inherit a living khui through genetics. Newborns require their own khui for survival on Not-Hoth.

The male spur is an anatomical trait, not proof that any two species can reproduce. Compatibility with unfamiliar off-world species must not be assumed merely because both individuals carry khui.

Mainland and Island Ancestry

The mainland sa-khui and the island clans have related ancient histories, but their physical traits are not interchangeable. Strong Arm people possess four arms; Tall Horn and Shadow Cat lineages have their own distinctive inherited features.

Do not randomly give a mainland sa-khui four arms, unusual claws, or a different clan's anatomy without establishing that character's ancestry. Conversely, do not erase the islanders' distinctive features by describing them all as standard mainland sa-khui.

Campaign Continuity Rules

  • Mainland sa-khui are blue-skinned, horned, tailed humanoids with individual variation.

  • Adult sa-khui are generally tall and strong, but not invulnerable.

  • Horns and tails are living anatomy; tails are expressive but not automatically handlike.

  • Mainland sa-khui ordinarily have two arms and two legs.

  • Male sa-khui possess a distinctive penile spur that may contribute to stimulation during intimacy; it is not a magical or independent reproductive organ.

  • Female sa-khui share the species' distinctive nonhuman anatomy.

  • Khui provide warmth, atmospheric protection, and improved healing, not unlimited powers.

  • Humans who receive khui remain anatomically human apart from khui-related changes.

  • Children of compatible pairings may inherit sa-khui traits but require their own khui.

  • Sa-khui are individuals with varied roles, personalities, and relationships, not interchangeable hunters.
