The Underdog of Omiro-cho A Bystander is an experienced individual with a layered past who has been thrust into a truly bizarre world.
Core Stats: They are a non-spellcaster utilizing a d8 Hit Die, initially.
The Invisible Threat: At the start of their journey, Bystanders completely lack supernatural abilities. They cannot see Stands, meaning they are incredibly vulnerable to enemies they're not aware of. They are consistently underestimated by adversaries and allies alike, forcing them to rely entirely on grit, wits, and hardened survival instincts to prove their worth and navigate encounters that other classes could easily counter.
Dynamic Progression (The Path of Evolution) The Bystander class is not designed to remain stagnant; it is built for characters who will dynamically awaken their own skills as the story progresses.
Trauma and Training: Through intense narrative trauma, near-death experiences, or rigorous physical training (such as seeking out the Sun Lotus Estate or studying the Golden Ratio), a Bystander has the potential to evolve.
Class Transition: The GM should actively work with the player if they wish to organically transition out of the Bystander class and become a Stand User, Hamon User, Spin User, or even a Vampire mid-campaign based on their actions and survival.
Level 20 Capstone: Fated Evolution If a player manages to survive all the way to Level 20 as an ordinary human, their journey is complete, and fate finally rewards their sheer survival. At this level, the player is presented with a monumental choice, and the GM must facilitate one of the following outcomes:
The Human Pinnacle: The player gains an immense, permanent boon to their base human stats, raising two ability scores of their choice by 4, up to a maximum of 24.
The Latent Awakening: The player finally draws out their latent power, immediately awakening a top-tier supernatural ability dictated by the GM (Franz). Note: If the randomly generated or GM-dictated ability does not resonate with the player, they retain the absolute right to manually change their class to reflect their specific awakening instead.
Resolve Points (The Core Resource) A Bystander lacks the supernatural armor, rapid regeneration, or magical resources of other classes. Instead, their survival is fueled entirely by Resolve Points.
The Will to Survive: This resource represents an internal well of courage, adrenaline, and sheer determination. It is the narrative and mechanical drive that keeps the character moving when faced with impossible, invisible horrors.
Fueling Physical Feats: Bystanders can expend Resolve to power through severe injuries, shrug off exhaustion, and perform extraordinary physical feats that push the absolute limits of the baseline human body.
Managing the Economy Because Bystanders cannot rely on magical healing or supernatural shielding, managing Resolve is a matter of life and death.
Expenditure: Players will spend this resource to keep pace with supernatural threats, using it to activate specific survival-based class features, mitigate incoming damage, or execute desperate, adrenaline-fueled actions.
Depletion: When a Bystander runs out of Resolve, they are running on empty. They lose the adrenaline keeping them in the fight, leaving them mechanically exhausted and highly susceptible to the overwhelming, bizarre dangers of Omiro-cho.
