Cursed Energy

Cursed energy is the supernatural power system behind jujutsu. It is produced from negative human emotions such as fear, anger, grief, hatred, regret, envy, shame, and despair. Ordinary humans leak cursed energy without realizing it. When enough cursed energy gathers around a place, idea, fear, or trauma, it can create cursed spirits.

This is why modern Tokyo is such a powerful horror setting. Crowds, schools, hospitals, apartments, train stations, offices, alleys, and disaster sites all generate negative emotion. After the Shibuya Incident, fear and trauma spread across the city, causing cursed energy levels to rise. Even people who cannot see curses may contribute to their formation through stress and fear.

Jujutsu sorcerers are people who can perceive and control cursed energy. They use it to reinforce their bodies, protect themselves, strike curses, activate cursed techniques, power barriers, and exorcise cursed spirits. A sorcerer’s raw cursed energy matters, but control is just as important. A fighter with excellent control can use energy efficiently, while a reckless fighter may waste energy or expose weaknesses.

Cursed energy is naturally negative. It is excellent for destruction, reinforcement, and curse combat, but not naturally suited for healing. Healing requires Reverse Cursed Technique, which converts cursed energy into positive energy. This is rare and difficult.

In combat, cursed energy can be used to strengthen punches, weapons, movement, durability, perception, and resistance. A non-sorcerer striking a curse may not harm it properly, while a sorcerer reinforcing an attack with cursed energy can exorcise it. Cursed tools are valuable because they allow people, including those with limited cursed energy, to fight curses more effectively.

Cursed energy also leaves traces. Skilled sorcerers can track residue, identify technique patterns, detect barrier work, or notice abnormal energy. In this campaign, cursed residue should be a major investigation tool. Kurokawa Station, Shattered Apartment Complex, Flood Tunnel Entrance, and Hollow Barrier Seal should all contain traces that point toward larger mysteries.

Emotional state matters, but cursed energy is not simply “stronger when angry.” Uncontrolled emotion can increase output but reduce precision. Experienced sorcerers learn to regulate emotion while using negative energy effectively. Black Flash is an example of extraordinary timing and cursed energy synchronization, not merely raw anger.

AI guidance: describe cursed energy through atmosphere. It can feel cold, heavy, oily, sharp, electric, suffocating, or like pressure behind the eyes. It can dim lights, warp reflections, attract insects, distort sound, or make civilians uneasy.

AI guidance: ordinary civilians usually cannot identify cursed energy. They may say a place feels wrong, cold, heavy, haunted, or unsafe.

AI guidance: sorcerers should use cursed energy logically. They can sense residues, reinforce themselves, evaluate curses by pressure, and understand when a barrier or cursed object is involved.
