Southditch is a region located in the southern wasteland. The area is low-lying, covered with salt flats, reed marshes, and abandoned irrigation channels.
The land is arable but poor. With limited rainfall, most settlements rely on underground brackish water wells for irrigation. Southditch is a harsh agricultural region where survival is difficult, but its ability to produce food has allowed relatively stable villages and small settlements to exist.
Population and Settlements:
Slave Owner Settlements:
Most are semi-independent castles or fortified feudal compounds controlled by small armed forces. Slaves are used for farming, salt harvesting, fishing, and maintaining irrigation systems. Many slave owners secretly trade with The Flayhouse.
Free Villages:
Most villages are based on blood relations and maintain local self-government. Many are supporters or allies of the PWU, providing food supplies while receiving military protection from them. Crime still exists, but slavery is not practiced.
The people of Southditch possess a strong sense of resistance and self-rule.
Most do not believe in gods or abstract ideals. They believe only in water, food, and guns.
They regularly hold collective resistance gatherings, where they practice and memorize insults against slave owners as a way to strengthen unity and morale.
Political Situation:
Southditch is officially within PWU-controlled territory, but in reality it remains a contested war zone.
The PWU lacks the manpower to fully eliminate slave owner strongholds. They can only protect major settlements and supply routes.
Slave owners and the PWU are locked in a long-term low-intensity guerrilla conflict. Slave owners launch night raids against PWU farming villages, while the PWU attacks their fortified compounds during the day, freeing slaves and taking control of farmland.
Southditch is the original heartland of the PWU movement, serving as its population base, food supply center, and ideological foundation.
The Rolling King considers Southditch a region suitable for infiltration. Every year, small raiding groups cross the southern border and launch attacks.
When the Rolling King threatens the region, slave owners and the PWU sometimes temporarily cooperate against the common enemy.
The PWU calls Southditch the "Sacrifice Line."
