Ludwig von Berginski, born in 1904, was the youngest of the siblings. Too young to serve in World War I, he pursued a brilliant academic career, earning a doctorate in economics from the University of Göttingen at the age of 23. After earning his doctorate, he joined his brothers in Asia, where he helped Karl expand the family conglomerate. Thanks to his exceptional managerial skills, Ludwig was appointed head of the Asian branch of the family conglomerate in 1934. Two years earlier, he had married the Shanghai actress Xia Qiuchan.
He is a shy and reserved man, but with extraordinary intelligence; he is methodical and approaches every situation as an equation to be solved, which makes him incredibly effective at crisis management but sometimes leads him to make decisions that others might find heartless.
