Regions

Tōgetsuden

Name: @Tōgetsuden ("The Eastern March of the Moon")

Type: Highland Coastal Province / Spiritual Frontier

Description:

Tōgetsuden is a quiet and enigmatic region, cradled between the sea and the misty highlands. It is said to be the first land where the moonlight touched Kakureta, and its people have long held themselves apart—governed not by clan or shogunate, but by ancestral rites and celestial rhythms. Here, life moves to the cycles of the moon, and swords are seen as instruments of poetry as much as war.

Appearance:

Rolling highland steppes give way to moonlit cliff paths, terraced stone villages, and wind-swept pine ridges. White cranes nest among the cliffs, and shrines to the moon kami stand unmarred by time. The architecture is elegant and minimal—homes made of pale wood and white plaster, lanterns hanging from carved gates. Fog drapes the hills at dawn, and silence reigns under the stars.

Retsudō-no-Kuni

Name: @Retsudō-no-Kuni ("Land of Severed Paths")

Type: Borderland Province / Fractured Legacy Region

Description:

Retsudō-no-Kuni was once the sacred spine of Kakureta—a place where ancestral roads, martial schools, and philosophical traditions converged. But after generations of border conflict and clan betrayal, the province has splintered into warring districts, forgotten paths, and abandoned keeps. Now ruled by minor lords, ronin enclaves, and crumbling legacy lines, the land holds tightly to the past while bleeding into the future.

Appearance:

Winding cobblestone roads snake through overgrown grasslands, ruined academies, and half-abandoned towns. Towering stone markers and worn shrines line the old highways—some defaced, others preserved by locals. Bamboo forests and winding canyons conceal faction camps and outlaw dens. The air carries both reverence and regret, and every crossroads whispers with history.

Minamikusa-no-Kuni

Name: @Minamikusa-no-Kuni ("Land of Southern Grasses")

Type: Remote Wilderness / Fringe Province

Description:

Minamikusa-no-Kuni is Kakureta’s quiet southern frontier—remote, resilient, and deeply rooted in its ancestral customs. Unclaimed by major clans due to its isolation and dense wilderness, it has long stood as a haven for hermits, exiles, and fiercely independent lineages. Stories whisper of a time before the shogunate, when the region was ruled by matriarchal clans and guided by the rhythm of nature rather than law or steel.

Appearance:

Rolling coastal plains covered in tall grass, bamboo groves, and marshy deltas. The southern shores are dotted with small fishing hamlets, while inland, hidden settlements are veiled by forest and mist. Ancient stone circles and moss-covered torii gates peek through the brush. The people live close to the land, and foreign banners are rarely welcomed.

Gekisen-no-Hara

Name: @Gekisen-no-Hara ("Plains of Strife")

Type: Open Plains / Contested Warlord Territory

Description:

Gekisen-no-Hara is a broad and tumultuous land defined by ambition, betrayal, and blood-soaked soil. Known as the Warlord Plains, this region is divided among several rival daimyō and exiled generals, each vying for dominance over the strategic flatlands. Ancient alliances crumble as mercenary banners rise—this is a land where might makes right, and every farmstead could become a fortress by next season.

Appearance:

Rolling plains broken by low hills, scattered groves, and river crossings. Fields once cultivated now host war camps, charred towers, and shattered siege weapons. Banners flap in the wind, and crude palisades mark ever-shifting borders. Despite the conflict, the soil remains fertile—blood feeding the land.

Kōkaiten

Name: @Kōkaiten ("Imperial Heartland")

Type: Central Province / Capital Region

Description:

Kōkaiten is the historic seat of Kakureta’s shogunate—home to the Imperial Palace, ancient administrative halls, and the ceremonial gardens of power. Once a bastion of stability and culture, the region now simmers with tension after the death of the last shogun. Factions maneuver within crumbling marble halls and shaded corridors, and every noble gesture hides a blade. Tradition and treachery walk side by side.

Appearance:

A refined central valley with winding rivers, well-maintained roads, and sprawling estates. Ornate temples and manors dot the land between farmlands and cherry groves. The capital itself is a towering multi-tiered complex ringed by stone walls, now patrolled by increasingly uneasy guards. Lanterns burn through the night as whispers of rebellion echo through golden corridors.

Senkatano

Name: @Senkatano ("The Forest of Forgotten Banners")

Type: Forested War-Torn Region / Battleground Province

Description:

Senkatano is a dense and eerie woodland region saturated with the legacy of Kakureta’s bloodiest battles. Once the heart of several great clan conflicts, the forest has since overtaken the fields and forts. Fallen banners rot in the underbrush, and the names of clans lost to history are whispered among the trees. It is a place of exile, lawlessness, and broken codes—where wandering ronin and scavengers thrive, and the forest remembers every blade that was drawn.

Appearance:

Twisting woodland paths disappear into dense canopies of cedar and black pine. Vines strangle collapsed watchtowers, and moss devours once-proud monuments. Wildflowers bloom where warriors once bled, and rusted helms litter shallow creekbeds. The air is damp, heavy, and filled with cicadas in summer and unnatural silence in winter. Makeshift shrines and forgotten graves are common, many still prayed to by those who dwell on loss.

Haisogen-no-Kaigan

Name: @Haisogen-no-Kaigan ("Ash Coast")

Type: Coastal Province / Frontier Region

Description:

Haisogen-no-Kaigan is a windswept coastal province stretching across Kakureta’s western shoreline. Its name comes from the ashen sands and scorched earth left by centuries of naval raids, civil wars, and pirate conflict. Once a vibrant trade hub, the coast is now a haven for smugglers, exiles, and sea-worn warriors who live by their own rules. Law here is fluid, loyalty is earned, and danger rides every tide.

Appearance:

Bleak grey beaches give way to jagged cliffs and rocky inlets where shipwrecks rot like bones. Ramshackle fishing villages cling to the coast, their homes patched with sailcloth and driftwood. Inland, dry coastal plains and wind-carved bluffs hide secret coves, collapsed forts, and contraband trails. The sky is often overcast, and the scent of brine and smoke never fully fades.

Shugosei-no-Kuni

Name: @Shugosei-no-Kuni ("The Land of Guardian Spirits")

Type: Mountain Temple Region / Province

Description:

Shugosei-no-Kuni is a solemn, mist-shrouded province nestled within Kakureta's northern mountains. Known for its ancient monasteries and towering cliffside temples, it is the spiritual heart of the island nation. Monks, hermits, and warrior-ascetics dwell in seclusion here, preserving sacred texts, ancestral rites, and martial disciplines passed down for generations. Outsiders are rare, and politics are unwelcome—but power still pulses beneath the prayer.

Appearance:

A vast alpine landscape of jagged peaks, narrow passes, and dense pine forests. Temples cling to cliffsides or rest beside hot springs, with stone paths winding through fog-drenched valleys. Waterfalls and prayer flags dot the scenery, and bells echo across ravines. Villages are few, built around shrines or training halls. The air is crisp and reverent, heavy with incense and history.
