While the exact date that the Shek Kingdom was founded is unclear, it ranges anywhere between 100 ~ 1000 years ago[24], some time after they started sprouting horns[25], and some time before United Cities and Traders Guild were founded[26].
For most of history that anyone could remember, the Shek were primitive tribes living in the wilderness, divided and warring regularly amongst each other[27], and their neighbors[28]. This all changed after a great warrior named Kral unified the tribes together into a powerful kingdom, and led them into a march of conquest[29]. Eventually he was slain in battle by forces that is rumored to have outnumbered him a hundredfold[30] and attained a godlike status amongst his followers, who seek to get themselves killed in battle like he did. As a result, they have been engaged in raiding, pillaging, and other barbaric practices with their neighbors like The Holy Nation and United Cities ever since[28].
The frequent raids of their neighbors have contributed to The Red Rebellion of United Cities, as their raiders have blockaded the routes and took the supplies for themselves[31].
In more recent history however, they have suffered from significant military drawbacks against The Holy Nation (who by contrast, has now militarized themselves substantially and start beating back), and their kingdom's population demographics crippled under the sustained losses in wars against both The Holy Nation and United Cities[9].
In the final stages of their conflict against The Holy Nation where it became very clear that they were losing[32], Shager in his fury proposed a suicide-attack with the remaining against The Holy Nation which almost caused an utter annihilation of their country if it weren't for Bayan's objection that was supported by Esata. Shager and Esata dueled with each other, to which the latter won and executed Shager on the spot[32].
Under Esata now, their kingdom was forced to relent, and they have called off their main assaults against The Holy Nation (the raids still persist in a limited capacity)[33][34][35] until an opportunity presents itself, they have signed a truce with the United Cities, forbade the attacking of outsiders and opened up their cities for trade (albeit begrudgingly)[36]. This has caused an internal strife within the society, with many Sheks denouncing Esata and breaking off from the Kingdom, such as the Kral's Chosen.
For these reasons, the present-day Shek Kingdom finds itself in a state of instability, with discontent rising as many warmongers grow impatient yearning for the day of bloodshed[37][38][39][40].
