The Holy Nation (sometimes also referred to as Holy Empire[1][2]) is a very large theocratic Greenlander[3] state ruled by a Phoenix whom they believe to be a reincarnation of their first ruler[4], and is rumored to be over 5000 years old[5]. Their denizens are concentrated mostly in and around Okran's Pride. They are the largest faction in terms of population, outnumbering others by several dozen times[6][7][8].
They are a zealous farming society whose religion encompasses all aspects of their life. Their religion, Okranism, is based around the dualism of the Okran, Lord Of Light, and Narko, Demoness of Darkness[9]. Holy Nation citizens are often interchangeably referred to as Okranites[10]. They live their life based on the doctrines set forth by the first Phoenix, which elevates men as the virtuous role model[11][12] that assumes the role of stewardship over women[13][14].
Prior to the game start they were a nation constantly plagued by Sheks who have been raiding and warring against them for centuries[15][16][17][18], this all changed under the rising of their 62nd Phoenix, a harsh and ambitious leader who saw the futility of merely defending against the Shek raids. Recognizing that peace would never come from a passive posture alone, he launched a bold and decisive military campaign - The Holy Crusade - an initiative that sought to rid the Kingdom's raids once and for all.
The Okranites - bolstered by the initiative of their leader - fought tooth and nail against the raiders of Shek Kingdom whose leader Shager launched all-out offensives of their own in response. In a war of attrition with heavy casualties on both sides, the forces of HN prevailed as a result of their overwhelming numbers and struck a decisive blow to the Shek's leadership, decimating their forces and nearly driving them into extinction.
In the end of the conflict, they have managed to secure their borders as the Shek no longer had the strength to raid their nation effectively[19][20]. But the relative peace is a fragile one, as the few remaining warriors were preserved by their new leadership bide their time and raid at the edges of their territory, and their threat isn't entirely gone.
On another front, in recent times after Tengu came into power, simmering tensions between them and United Cities have broken out into open conflict at the border of Okran's Valley - Bast. The forces of HN have successfully overwhelmed and pushed UC back to Bast in a single day and razed the entire region in the process, the borders have since become conflict zones with constant skirmishes between the 2 giants[21], where HN has been fairly content simply keeping UC at bay[22].
As a result of their experiences and religious beliefs, Hivers and Sheks coming to their domain are considered to be dangerous criminal elements[23] by their society, and would require a Human escort to be trusted to keep them in order[24]. Those coming to their domain without an escort would be considered to be trespassing their borders and imprisoned as a result[25], though they care little for the non-humans living outside their areas[26]. Their society also harbors a deep-rooted fear of robots (and their enhancements) where they will often react to them in fear-induced outbursts of violence. Ancient tech and narcotics are banned in their society.
