Intellect and advanced technology have no place in Shek society. The Shek earn their respect amongst each other through strength and bravery alone[41]. The outsiders are only tolerated for the trade they bring by Esata's orders, and only for now[42].
Kral taught them that dying in battle is the only way to find prosperity and honor, and by dying in battle they can pass to Gateway, a spiritual realm where all their great heroes reside. This suicidal mindset makes for strong and fearless warriors, but greatly decreases their population.
Shek society is divided into two castes. The upper class of warriors, and the lower class of servants. They base this upon the belief that the weak deserve to be subjugated by the strong[43], where the weak make, and the strong take[44].
The title of the warriors are based upon their rough measure[45] of fighting skills, the most standard of them are the Shek Warriors and Shek Scouts. The Shek frequently train in combat and duel with each other to determine their rank in society, with Hundred Guardians being the top 100 elites of their society[46] below only the strongest of The Five Invincibles, one of the 5 being Esata herself.
The servants of the nation are composed of deserters, cowards and those that are knocked out in combat and branded as such[47] these individuals have their horns cut, are denied from combat[48], and are subjected to a life similar to indentured servitude where they owe their life to the lord they serve[49]. This is implied to be insufferable for many, causing the formation of Band of Bones where most of their members (most notably their leader Tora[50]) have deserted the kingdom to find freedom to fight for themselves.
The Shek love to have an excuse to fight[51][52], and have a tendency to impulsively duel and kill others[53][54]. They are also known for being very demanding and antagonistic towards others. Should their victim resist, they'd often frame it as an act of aggression on the victim's part and seek 'vengeance' for resisting their demands and assaults[55][56].
Their society is currently suffering from an ever increasingly impatient populace who wish to launch assaults upon other nations to sate their thirst for bloodshed and battle[37], and a growing number of them are deserting the kingdom to join Berserkers or Kral's Chosen as a result[57]. It's likely only a matter of time before the kingdom completely crumbles from the pent-up anger and frustration.
The Shek loathe the races that they consider weaker and often target and harass Humans and Hivers that are travelling through their cities as a result[58][59].
Hashish is outlawed in the Shek Kingdom and characters will be searched by the gate guards to stop its contraband to the Shek cities.
Being the only faction to live in a barren land with neither any noticeable farms nor mines to support themselves, it could be inferred that their source of income comes from the tributes from the neighboring Western Hive given their practice of demanding tributes from neighbors and the presence of Hive Trader Caravans that occasionally travel through Stenn Desert[60].
