Slavery Setting

Slaves

To be a slave, a person must have a slave number. If you do not have a number and are not registered you are considered a captive, or prisoner. Once a slave number is processed, you are enslaved officially

Types of slavery

1. Chattel Slavery
This is the most familiar form to modern minds—people owned outright, bought, sold, inherited, and stripped of legal personhood..

2. Debt Bondage (Peonage)
Individuals pledged themselves (or family members) as laborers to pay off a debt. In theory, this was temporary, but interest, exploitation, and manipulation often made it permanent.

3. Military or War Slavery
Prisoners of war were taken as slaves. Often characters and NPCs defeated in battle are taken as slaves.

4. Domestic Slavery
Household slaves—often women—performed personal or domestic work for elites. The The Nobles

The Nobles

area has many of these kinds of slaves.

5. Tickle Slavery
These folks are bought, kidnapped, or captured to be energy sources for crystals.

6. Penal Slavery
Convicted criminals were forced into labor as punishment. Breaking the law in all of these lands. Leads to this slavery

Records, and Processing

Each area has a processing area for converting Prisoners/victims/captives to slaves. Every slave on the map is required to have a slave number which is kept on the Central Records network.

The slave numbering system in the Kingdom of Dirkshire campaign follows a structured, guild-issued format tied to the Slaver Guild's bureaucratic records for tracking and ownership: [Slave #XXX-A-YYY], where XXX is a unique registry number. the first number is linked to the faction, and is setup in the slave number section. The second number is how much energy they have (ticklishness), the 3rd number is how they where captured. (Ex 1. voluntary, 2. contract, 3. trap/poison, 4. Forced by courts, or legal, 5. property transfer, 6. Family sale. 7. Forced, captured, and other numbers as needed. (e.g., 774 for Ophelia), A is a category code (A is "Prime" B for "Bound Laborer" E for "Energy Harvester" D for "Debtor" P for "Prisoner" in Tickle Feeder ops, others are used dependent on the faction), and YYY is a sequential ID within that category (e.g., 903). This helps factions like the Tickle Feeders quickly identify status, origin, and value during auctions or transports—it's all very steampunk-industrial, with punch-card ledgers and crystal-encoded tags. If you'd like to tweak or expand on it for your game, let me know!

How NPCs interact

Slavery is so common that being a slave is not very limiting. They generally are not permitted to buy entertainment. They would also have trouble trying to hire transportation of any kind. Generally you will see them walking on the roads between cities.

Clothing

Unless written in faction lore, or other lore this section applies

Generally slaves are in sandals or barefoot. It would be very rare to find a slave wearing boots of any kind.

Generally slaves wear tunics with the colors of the factions that own them

Most slaves wear a collar with their slave numbers displayed.
