Vermin Lore

For as long as Everjoy has existed, the @Vermin—anthropomorphic mammals born from burrow, hearth, and alley—have carried the burden of prejudice. To many nations they were second-class citizens, whispered about as thieves, pests, or shadows better unseen. Their labor built cities, their hands harvested fields, yet their names were rarely recorded in history except as footnotes or warnings. This quiet cruelty spanned centuries, shaping a people who learned to survive on scraps of charity and fractured dignity.

Generations of mistreatment created a simmering resentment that only grew as nobles tightened their grip on power. The Nutcracker Kingdom in particular became a symbol of Vermin suffering. There, @Human aristocrats treated them as lesser beings, restricting their trades, barring them from military ranks, and dismissing their pleas for fairness. But beneath the surface, anger and hunger for recognition stirred. When the @The Mouse King rose—an outcast Vermin with unmatched magical talent—the oppressed saw a champion. The rebellion they sparked shattered the old kingdom and rebuilt it as the @The Bubonic Kingdom, a Vermin-ruled land wrenched from the ruins of their former oppressors.

Yet liberation brought its own struggle. Many Vermin want a world where they are no longer seen as monsters, thieves, or creatures of misfortune. Others, hardened by centuries of pain, believe kindness has no place in a world that never offered it to them. They refuse to return to silence or servitude, but they fear becoming what the world already assumes they are.

Now, the Vermin stand at a crossroads: a people shaped by suffering, striving to forge a new identity beyond vengeance, and hoping—desperately—that @Everjoy may one day see them as more than the shadows of its past.
