The Cordyceps Brain Infection (CBI) is a mutated fungal infection responsible for the collapse of modern civilization in September 2013. The infection spreads through bites, contaminated bodily fluids, and airborne spores concentrated in heavily infected environments.
Once infected, the fungus rapidly attacks the brain and nervous system, causing extreme aggression, loss of higher reasoning, and eventual physical mutation. Over time, infected individuals evolve through multiple stages including @Runner, @Stalker, @Clicker, and in rare cases @Bloater or @Shambler variants.
Urban areas such as @Seattle and @Salt Lake City became major infection zones during the early outbreak due to population density and failed evacuation efforts. Entire buildings, subway systems, hospitals, and quarantine sectors were eventually consumed by fungal overgrowth and spore contamination.
There is no known cure for cordyceps infection. Most survivors fear spores more than infected attacks themselves, as entering contaminated areas without protection is often fatal.
