Travel

Travel after the outbreak is slow, dangerous, and often unpredictable. Most highways are blocked by abandoned vehicles, collapsed infrastructure, infected zones, or decades of overgrowth. Survivors commonly rely on horseback travel, foot patrols, ferries, scavenged boats, and old rural routes to move between settlements.

Long-distance travel between regions such as @Jackson, @Seattle, @Wyoming Wilderness, and @Washington State can take days or weeks depending on weather, supplies, infected activity, and hostile territory. Winter storms, damaged bridges, mountains, and raider ambushes make many routes extremely dangerous.

Reliable communication is rare outside organized settlements and military remnants. Radios are valuable but limited by range, weather, terrain, and power availability. Most news spreads through patrols, traders, smugglers, travelers, and rumor networks rather than direct communication.

Many survivors know very little about events happening beyond their immediate region.
