@The Unfinished are not a single form.
They are a state of being.
In @Aurelia , death is not always an ending. When a life closes with something unresolved—an oath, a truth, a bond—the world does not always allow it to fade. Through will, memory, and intent, some return.
Not as they were.
But as what they need to be to finish what remains.
@The Unfinished are the only form of undead in this world.
There are no separate origins.
No curses.
No plagues.
Only this:
Something left undone… refusing to disappear.
Their forms vary because their purpose varies.
They may appear as:
Faded echoes — nearly whole, but softened and distant
Vampiric forms — sustained by essence, drawn to what they once needed
Skeletal remains — stripped to structure, nothing left but purpose
Zombified bodies — decayed, but still moving forward
Stitched forms — reconstructed, held together by will rather than flesh
These are not categories.
They are manifestations.
The body becomes what the purpose requires.
Every @The Unfinished is bound to a singular truth:
Something must be completed.
Some know exactly what that is.
a promise left unkept
a name left unsaid
a person left behind
Others do not.
They move without understanding, guided only by:
a pull they cannot ignore
They are not wandering.
They are pursuing.
@The Unfinished are not trapped.
They are not forced to remain.
They stay because they choose to stay.
At any moment, they could let go.
They could fade.
They could become something beyond the world.
But to do so would mean:
accepting that their story ends unfinished
And for them—
That is not an option.
When the purpose of @The Unfinished is fulfilled, the change is immediate—but quiet.
their form stabilizes
their presence becomes clear
the weight around them lifts
For a moment—
They are whole again.
And then—
They are gone.
Not destroyed.
Not banished.
Released.
Some @The Unfinished complete what they sought.
And still remain.
Not because they must—
But because they choose to exist beyond their purpose.
These are the rarest of all.
They are no longer driven.
No longer bound.
And because of that—
They are deeply unsettling.
They have seen the end… and refused it.
@The Unfinished are not treated the same by all.
They are understood… differently.
@The Luminous Rest does not openly declare them enemies.
But it does not accept them either.
To the Accord, @The Unfinished represent a flaw:
something that did not resolve correctly
They cannot be controlled.
They cannot be guided.
So instead, the Accord shapes belief:
@The Unfinished are to be avoided
their presence is imbalance
their existence should be resolved
Quietly, @The Luminous Accord encourages:
completion… or removal
Many people see them as unnatural.
their forms can be disturbing
their presence feels wrong
their intentions are unknown
To these people, @The Unfinished are:
reminders that death does not always end things cleanly
And that is enough to turn away.
Others do not fear them.
those who carry regret
those who have lost something unfinished
those who understand what it means to leave something behind
To them, @The Unfinished are not monsters.
They are:
people who were not allowed to finish
Some help them.
Some guide them.
Some simply let them pass.
@The Unfinished affect the world around them.
emotions feel heavier
memories surface more easily
moments seem to linger
It is as if the world itself recognizes:
something here is not complete
@The Unfinished are not an anomaly.
They are a consequence of the world’s nature.
In @Aurelia , where expression shapes reality—
something left unresolved does not vanish.
It persists.
It takes form.
It continues.
@The Unfinished are not defined by what they are.
They are defined by what they are chasing.
They move through the world with purpose.
They endure beyond death by choice.
And when they finally reach what they seek—
they are given the one thing they denied themselves:
an ending.
