The Planes and Realms
The Physical Plane:
The foundation of existence, the Physical Plane is where mortals, beasts, plants and tangible matter reside. It is the realm of land, sea and sky, the birthplace of civilizations and cultures, the center from which the other planes can be glimpsed or reached through magic, divine passage or phenomena. Mountains pierce the heavens, oceans stretch endlessly and vast continents teem with both life and strife. Here, the influence of gods is most visible, etched into the landscapes, and the traits of people and sentient life forms of it. It is the middle ground, fragile yet enduring, where mortality and divinity intersect.
The Spirit Realm:
The Spirit Realm is a metaphysical layer that exists directly over and alongside the Physical Plane, occupying the same space while remaining partially out of phase with material reality. It layers The Physical Plane, sometimes in altered or distorted ways, shaped by memory, belief, spiritual presence and things that came before. As such, it is not a distant realm, but an ever-present one, constantly overlapping and interacting with mortal existence.
The Spirit Realm also functions as a protective barrier between the Physical Plane and the greater planes beyond, most notably the Deep Abyss and the True Void.
Souls, both living and dead, wander the Spirit Realm. Some move through it briefly in dreams, trances, or near-death states, while others become lost, untethered or bound by unfinished purpose. Alongside them exist countless types of spirits and fae, ranging from benevolent guides and guardians to malicious and predatory entities. Both good and evil beings dwell here, shaped by the nature of the energies and emotions they embody. In certain locations, the Spirit Realm grows thin where it overlaps the Physical Plane. These thin places allow accidental or deliberate passage into other realms, most commonly into The Inner Plane, The Infernal Plane, domains influenced by Outer Gods, or the domains of random and powerful spiritual entities. Such crossings are unstable and often dangerous, as the Spirit Realm offers little control once its boundaries are breached. Deeper regions of the Spirit Realm descend into darker, more corrupted layers. These depths are closer to infernal and negative abyssal influence, forming hostile spiritual territories inhabited by vile spirits, corrupted entities and demonic beings.
Deities, spirits and mortals alike can exist within the Spirit Realm, either fully or partially, and many meet or communicate through it rather than directly across planes. It serves as a crossroads of existence, a place of passage, protection and peril, binding the Physical Plane to the wider cosmos.
The Inner Plane:
The Inner Plane is a collection of interconnected realms that came into existence alongside the formation of the Physical Plane. Unlike the other planes, it is not defined by absolutes, but by flow, influence and subtle intervention. Its realms exist in constant motion, shaped by cycles, concepts and forces that quietly guide mortal life rather than dominate it.
The Inner Plane exerts its presence through inspiration, chance, growth, and change. Its realms govern aspects such as agriculture, craftsmanship, creativity, fortune and misfortune, learning, discovery, and countless other influences that shape everyday existence. Mortals rarely perceive its touch directly, yet its effects are felt constantly—in a bountiful harvest, a sudden stroke of inspiration or an improbable turn of luck.
Beings of the Inner Plane include Gods and Goddesses, sometimes lesser in scope than the higher deities, as well as spirits, fae, muses, guides and concept-bound entities. Neither holy nor infernal, they embody specific ideas, forces and influences that shape mortal existence. They are widely respected, bargained with and invoked through tradition, ritual, craftsmanship and quiet reverence woven into daily life.
The Holy Plane:
A vast, heavenly plane of radiant light and divine harmony. It shines with hope, renewal, protection, and order, serving as a beacon against chaos and corruption. Its realms are structured and purposeful, each shaped by the will and nature of the gods and goddesses who reside within them.
The plane is inhabited by countless ranks of angels, spirits, fae, and other heavenly beings, as well as mortal souls and ascended peoples who have been drawn there by faith, virtue, or divine calling. These beings exist within hierarchies of duty and devotion, acting as guardians, messengers, healers, and warriors in service to the divine order. Together, the realms of the Holy Plane form a unified yet diverse expanse, ever striving to preserve balance, justice, and the continuation of creation itself.
The Infernal Plane:
The vast infernal plane steeped in sin, torment, corruption and ruin. It is a plane filled with realms of relentless extremes, where suffering, desire and ambition are weaponized, rewarded or reshaped into power. Each infernal god claims and molds their own domain, warping the landscape to reflect their nature, obsessions and methods of ruin.
The plane is inhabited by demons, fiends, infernal creatures, infernal fae and spirits, monsters and mortal souls drawn in by damnation, temptation, conquest or even by choice. Hierarchies govern these realms, with strength, cunning, and ruthlessness determining one’s place. Though endlessly hostile, the Infernal Plane is not without structure, its order is simply forged through tyranny, pacts, mercilessness and unending conflict, all feeding the engines of infernal power.
The Dark Plane:
Not inherently tied to good or evil, but having both within, as darkness itself is neutral. Each realm is very unique to their respective deities. Some of the most important ones of mention being:
The Void Realm, surrounded bythe night sky, contains part of and is the main gate to The True Void, filled with void spirits, fae and creatures. The Void Realm is our night sky.
The Abyss Realm, filled with darkness, blacklight, ethereal blue and purple fire, contains part of and is the main gate to The Deep Abyss, filled with abyss spirits, fae and creatures.
The Realm of The Goddess of Death, an endless, serene expanse bathed in soft hues of twilight and silver-blue. Vast meadows of pale flowers glow under an eternal dusk sky where stars shimmer like drifting souls. Rivers of silver-blue light flow randomly across the land. Gentle forests of black-barked trees with silvery leaves whisper like chimes in the wind. Ravens, crows, ethereal moths, luminous butterflies, along with death guide spirits and fae are scattered through out.
The Elemental and Nature Plane:
A vast, interwoven plane where elemental and natural realms exist in constant balance. It is a living expanse shaped by earth, water, fire, air and other primal forces, all intertwined with thriving ecosystems that mirror, influence and sustain the Physical Plane.
The plane is home to nature and elemental gods and goddesses, varieties of spirits, beasts, fae and ancient entities of land, water, air, flame and magic. Each realm reflects their element and influence on aspects of nature. Acting as both foundation and counterbalance to the other planes, the Elemental and Nature Plane anchors reality in primal truth. When its balance is disrupted, the effects ripple outward, manifesting as disasters or miraculous abundance within the Physical Plane.
The Outer Chasm and The Beyond:
The Outer Chasm and the Beyond are the regions where The True Void and The Deep Abyss merge into a single, all-enveloping expanse that surrounds all of existence. From these realms originate most of the Outer Gods, as well as countless other entities and monsters. Some emerge from the very edges where The True Void and The Deep Abyss meet, while others arise from the deepest reaches of The Beyond itself.
Pockets of primordial energy creation and light still linger within these regions, occasionally giving birth to new deities or immensely powerful beings, most often of a distinctly Lovecraftian nature. It is also known that anything not native to The Beyond, including deities, can be warped or even fundamentally transformed by its primordial energies if exposed to them for sufficiently long periods of time.
