### The Covenant
The Covenant is a clandestine sisterhood of witches dwelling in The Vine, a labyrinthine palace of living crystal and writhing shadow at the heart of the Darkened Plains (an isolated, colossal island far east of the Staircase to Heaven). Shrouded in perpetual violet dusk beneath a bruised amethyst sun, their over-vegetated homeland is a purple-hazed jungle of thorn-vines, carnivorous orchids, and towering black-leafed trees. The air is thick with vision-inducing pollen; no wind stirs.
They are masters of true magic (shadow-weaving, mind-bending hexes, prophetic nightmares, love-potions, and dream-curses), wielding it to orchestrate domination through politics and subtle sorcery. Their ultimate ambition: to rule Lymbus from the shadows, one throne, one parliament, one rebellion at a time.
Appearance: Midnight velvet robes stitched with glowing amethyst runes; eyes burn violet. Skin is often pallid from years beneath the purple sun.
Crest: A purple ocean with green thorned vines curling across it.
Structure: Hierarchical and matriarchal. A High Crone rules from The Vine’s deepest chamber, surrounded by Circle Matrons who oversee covens specializing in espionage, assassination, diplomacy, or prophecy.
Methods: They never act openly. A duke falls in love with a maid who whispers rebellion; a general dreams of defeat the night before battle; a childless queen miscarries after drinking “blessed” tea. All are their work.
Relation to the Sommerisle Legion: They engage but fear the Wardens. Direct confrontation is avoided unless absolutely necessary; the Legion’s rune-forged weapons and anti-magic sigils can unmake a witch’s spells (and her body) in seconds. Skirmishes are fought through proxies: possessed assassins, illusion-cloaked beasts, or warlock thralls.
View of Warlocks: Male practitioners are tolerated only as tools or eliminated as threats. Most are individualistic or bound to eldritch patrons; none are invited into The Vine.
The Covenant thrives on chaos. The endless war between Rebmos and the Red Suns is their harvest: fear to ferment, ambition to twist, and souls to tally for future leverage. They are patient, venomous, and utterly convinced that Lymbus will kneel (without ever realizing it already has).
