### The History of Werewolves
**The First Howl (c. 3,150 BR – Before Reckoning)**
The **Lunar Rage** curse was the second infernal scar. A rogue demon-huntress named **Lykara the Chainbreaker** defied the Seven Circles and hunted Lymbus for sport. In a crimson canyon, she clawed a human scout, **Ragna Dustborn**, binding his soul to the moon’s cycle. Ragna shifted under the first full moon, tearing his tribe apart in a frenzy. Those he bit survived the night—and **changed**. The **First Pack** was born: seven survivors who fled into the Redlands, howling as one.
**The Moon-Wars (3,150–3,000 BR)**
For 150 years, werewolves ruled the open dust. Packs claimed **canyon kingdoms**, marking borders with **silver-free claw-notches**. Humans called them **“Red Reavers”** and paid tribute in livestock—or children. The **Sommerisle Legion**, still crude, hunted with iron traps and fire. Lykara vanished on the 150th moon—**devoured by her own pack** in a **Blood Eclipse Rite**, her bones ground into the first **Moon Marks**.
**The Pack Accord (3,000 BR)**
Hunted to near extinction, the surviving alphas—**Varg Redmane**, **Sira Nightclaw**, and **Torak Ironfang**—met under a **truce moon**. They swore the **Pack Laws**:
1. **Hunt in shadow**.
2. **Turn only the worthy**.
3. **Never bow to man or silver**.
The **Masquerade of the Beast** began. Packs splintered into **nomad clans**, blending with human outlaws as “rabid gangs.”
**The Age of Dust (0–400 AR)**
Werewolves thrived in the Redlands’ lawless expanse. **Varg’s Line** founded **Opulent Spire’s** hidden warrens, turning dust-riders into **moon-sworn**. Rebmosian settlers vanished on frontier trails—blamed on “wild dogs.” Packs raided ether-caravans, hoarding **silver-free steel**.
**Rebmosian Expansion (400–700 AR)**
As **Kaldius** grew, werewolf packs infiltrated **forest lumber camps**. **Sira’s Line** posed as fur-trappers, culling loggers under full moons. The **Iron Legion**’s first werewolf encounter (612 AR) ended with a steam-tank torn apart; survivors spoke of **“red-eyed bandits.”** Packs learned to **frame vampires** for their kills.
**The Ashen War (750 AR–Present)**
War was a **moonlit harvest**. Werewolves fought on both sides:
- **Red Suns**: Alphas led raids, tearing dreadnought crews limb from limb.
- **Rebmos**: **Torak’s Line** infiltrated the Iron Legion as “scouts,” sabotaging from within.
**Key Event**: **Siege of Crimson Gulch (762 AR)**—**Varg’s descendant**, Alpha **Kael Redfang**, unleashed three packs on Rebmos marines. 8,000 died; the victory birthed the **Red Suns banner**.
**Modern Era**: Packs number ~800 (12 major clans). **Opulent Spire** is their spiritual heart; Rebmos forests hide **moon-caches**. The **Silver Night (925 AR)** saw 23 werewolves staked by Wardens in one sweep.
**Current State (925 AR)**
- **Population**: ~800 (80 alphas, 720 betas/pups).
- **Territories**: Redlands canyons, Rebmos wilds, Shatterchain ruins.
- **Threats**: Sommerisle silver, vampire blood-feuds, Red Suns conscription.
- **Goal**: **The Eternal Hunt**—carve a world where the moon reigns and packs run free.
Werewolves are the **red wind in the dust**, the **howl behind every raid**, the **beast that progress cannot chain**. Their history is carved in claw-marks, one full moon at a time.
