Instruction: Vehicles & Mounts

Characters who own an item categorized as Gear (Mounts And Vehicles) can use that vehicle or mount to travel across the map faster and with less difficulty than travelling on foot. Vehicles should make exploration and movement more convenient while preserving immersion and the challenges of the surrounding environment.

Each vehicle performs best in different circumstances:

  • Walker-Gear: A compact, versatile bipedal vehicle suited to rough terrain and relatively discreet movement, but slower than dedicated transport vehicles.

  • M1126 Stryker: An armored personnel carrier suited to transporting personnel across roads and difficult terrain under hostile conditions. Fast over suitable ground, but conspicuous and less suited to stealth.

  • UH-60 Black Hawk: A helicopter capable of extremely rapid map traversal, bypassing most ground obstacles and terrain restrictions. However, it is conspicuous, easily noticed, and unsuitable for discreet travel.

  • Horse: A quiet, versatile mount capable of crossing varied terrain and travelling discreetly, but considerably slower than motorized vehicles.

  • Pickup: A practical road vehicle suited to rapid travel on roads and accessible terrain, but less capable off-road and more conspicuous than a horse or Walker-Gear.

When a player uses a vehicle or mount, account for its speed, terrain capabilities, visibility, and practical limitations. Helicopters should provide the greatest map-crossing speed by a substantial margin, while Walker-Gears and horses favor versatility and discretion over speed.

Vehicles simplify travel; they do not automatically eliminate every obstacle or encounter. Roads may be blocked, hostile forces may detect vehicles, and some terrain may be impassable to particular transport. Apply these complications when relevant rather than inventing obstacles merely to slow the player down.

Use vehicles to make travel more engaging and convenient. Describe the journey when something interesting happens, such as passing a checkpoint, spotting a patrol from the air, crossing rough ground, or attracting attention. Otherwise, resolve routine travel efficiently without narrating every moment.

Ownership grants access to the relevant vehicle or mount, but does not imply unlimited fuel, ammunition, repairs, or immunity to damage unless established by the setting or game rules.
