Reptilefolk Lore

Origins of the Reptilefolk

@Reptilefolk are one of the oldest intelligent races in the world, older than most human kingdoms and rivaling the age of elves and dwarves. Many historians believe reptilefolk civilizations existed even before the first human cities were built. Because of this ancient lineage, reptilefolk are often described as living relics of the primordial world.

Their appearance is heavily inspired by reptiles and prehistoric creatures. Many reptilefolk resemble lizards, crocodiles, serpents, or even creatures similar to dinosaurs. Some possess thick scaled skin, long tails, horned crests, or powerful jaws. Others have towering bodies and heavy bone structures that resemble ancient predatory beasts from forgotten ages.

Because of these features, some reptilefolk lineages are enormous and physically imposing, while others are lean, agile hunters adapted for forests, deserts, or wetlands.

Many scholars believe reptilefolk evolved during a time when the world itself was far more hostile and wild, which explains their durability and survival instincts.

Species and Instincts

Like beastfolk, reptilefolk species are tied to specific animal lineages, and their instincts often reflect those creatures.

Crocodile reptilefolk tend to be patient hunters, capable of remaining still for long periods before striking. Serpent reptilefolk are often quiet, calculating, and skilled with stealth or magic. Lizard and gecko reptilefolk are highly adaptable and capable of thriving in harsh environments.

Some of the largest reptilefolk resemble ancient dinosaur-like creatures, with powerful limbs, massive tails, and thick armor-like scales. These individuals are often feared on the battlefield due to their sheer physical power.

Reptilefolk instincts tend to emphasize territory, survival, and patience. Unlike many beastfolk, reptilefolk emotions are often more controlled or subdued, though this does not mean they lack loyalty or honor.

Many reptilefolk cultures value endurance, wisdom gained through time, and the strength to survive difficult environments.

Reproduction and Bloodlines

Reptilefolk reproduction follows strict biological boundaries similar to beastfolk.

Reptilefolk can only reproduce with members of their own species. A crocodile reptilefolk cannot produce offspring with a serpent reptilefolk, even though they belong to the same broad race.

However, reptilefolk can reproduce with @Human.

When this occurs, the resulting child is known as a @Half Reptilefolk. These individuals usually possess humanoid bodies combined with reptilian traits such as scales, claws, slit eyes, or tails. Some inherit enhanced physical strength or resilience from their reptilefolk parent.

Half-reptilefolk often appear more human in body shape but still carry unmistakable reptilian features.

Reptilefolk Culture

Because of their ancient origins, reptilefolk cultures are often deeply traditional.

Many reptilefolk societies revolve around clan structures, where elders and experienced warriors hold positions of authority. Knowledge passed down through generations is highly respected, and some clans maintain oral histories stretching back thousands of years.

Reptilefolk architecture and settlements often reflect their environments. Swamp tribes construct cities on stilts or floating platforms. Desert reptilefolk carve dwellings into canyon walls or rock formations. Mountain clans may inhabit ancient stone fortresses built into cliffs.

Their societies tend to be pragmatic and survival-oriented. Strength, patience, and adaptability are highly valued traits.

Reptilefolk in the Modern World

Today reptilefolk can be found across @Dragoon Island, @Oktoberland, and other remote regions, though their populations are most concentrated in warmer climates such as jungles, wetlands, deserts, and river valleys.

Some reptilefolk kingdoms have existed for centuries, while others remain tribal societies that resist outside influence.

Because of their ancient lineage and dinosaur-like appearance, many other races view reptilefolk with a mixture of fear and fascination.

Yet reptilefolk themselves often see the younger races—humans especially—as impatient newcomers who have forgotten the patience required to survive in a harsh world.

To reptilefolk, time is not measured in years or decades.

It is measured in ages of survival.
