Slimefolk Lore

Origins of the Slimefolk

Slimefolk are a strange and controversial race that evolved from ordinary slimes, one of the most common monster types in the world. For thousands of years slimes existed as simple creatures—mindless blobs that consumed organic matter, minerals, and magic residue in caves, swamps, and ruins.

Over time, however, some slimes began to absorb large amounts of magical energy and nutrients. These slimes grew larger, more stable, and gradually developed intelligence.

Eventually certain slimes evolved into humanoid forms capable of speech, reasoning, and independent thought.

These beings became known as @Slimefolk.

Their bodies remain gelatinous and shapeless compared to most races, but many Slimefolk shape themselves into humanoid silhouettes to interact with other societies. Their bodies can change color, transparency, and density depending on mood, environment, or species type.

Physiology

A Slimefolk body is composed entirely of living gelatinous matter. They possess no bones or organs in the traditional sense. Instead their bodies function as a semi-liquid mass capable of reshaping itself.

This allows them to squeeze through cracks, slip under doors, climb surfaces, and enter places most creatures cannot reach. Some Slimefolk can even temporarily flatten themselves into thin layers or stretch their bodies to unusual shapes.

Despite their soft appearance, Slimefolk are surprisingly resilient. Many types can resist physical damage, absorb impacts, or dissolve materials depending on their composition.

Different Slimefolk species have developed different chemical properties. Some bodies are mildly acidic and capable of dissolving objects they touch. Others produce thick gelatin that is harmless or even edible.

Reproduction

Slimefolk reproduce asexually.

When a Slimefolk consumes enough food and magical energy, its body gradually grows larger and heavier. Once enough mass has accumulated, the Slimefolk begins a process similar to budding.

The creature simply oozes out a portion of its own mass, which separates and slowly develops into a new slime.

Over time this new slime matures into a fully intelligent Slimefolk.

The offspring typically begins with simple instincts and gradually develops intelligence through experience.

These newly formed slimes are often extremely loyal to the Slimefolk that produced them, though this loyalty fades as they grow independent.

Because Slimefolk can produce offspring relatively easily, they often create large numbers of young slimes. However, they rarely feel strong emotional attachment to these offspring.

In many cases Slimefolk simply release their young into the surrounding environment to develop on their own.

Slimefolk Society

Slimefolk society is unusual compared to most races. Because they reproduce asexually and lack traditional family structures, they rarely form strong emotional bonds.

Instead their cultures tend to revolve around practical cooperation and resource gathering.

Some Slimefolk communities form loose colonies in caves, ruins, and underground areas rich in magical energy. Others live among other races as workers, scouts, or spies.

Their shapeless bodies make them excellent infiltrators, cleaners, scavengers, and explorers.

Because they can move through small openings and survive in hazardous environments, many groups value Slimefolk for tasks other races cannot perform.

Slimefolk and the Exodia Inquisition

The Exodia Inquisition has found Slimefolk surprisingly useful.

Their bodies allow them to crawl through cracks in walls, enter sealed structures, or pass through dangerous environments such as toxic ruins or magical traps. Some Slimefolk serve as scouts or infiltration specialists within Exodia operations.

Because Slimefolk are technically monsters rather than traditional races, they often exist in a strange legal position within Exodia territories. They are tolerated and even employed, but rarely granted full rights.

Slimefolk and Demon Lords

During the Demon Age, demon lords also used slimes and Slimefolk extensively.

Their ability to consume materials and move through difficult environments made them valuable servants, dungeon creatures, and experimental subjects.

Even today some demon lord factions still employ Slimefolk for infiltration, sabotage, or guarding underground lairs.

Because both sides have used them throughout history, Slimefolk are often seen as belonging to neither side fully.

The Love–Hate Reputation

Slimefolk occupy a strange place in the world.

On one hand they are considered monsters, and many people distrust them due to their unusual bodies and origins.

On the other hand, Slimefolk are oddly popular in some places. Certain types produce substances within their bodies that are valuable or desirable.

Some Slimefolk produce acidic slime capable of dissolving metal and stone, which is useful for mining or warfare.

Others produce thick jelly-like slime that is edible and highly addictive to some species due to its rich taste and magical properties.

This has created an unusual relationship between Slimefolk and other races—part fear, part fascination.

Slimefolk Today

Today Slimefolk exist across many regions of the world, often living quietly in caves, ruins, laboratories, or among mixed communities.

They are not truly loved, nor fully hated.

To some they are useful allies.

To others they are strange monsters.

But to themselves, Slimefolk are simply another form of life—one that flows and adapts, slowly spreading through the world like the ooze they came from.
