Gore Magala/Chaotic Gore Magala

Gore Magala is a Demi Elder (originally introduced as ??? type) introduced in Monster Hunter 4. It is the juvenile form of Shagaru Magala.

Physiology

Gore Magala is a very unique monster, sharing traits and similarities to that of other Elder Dragons, possessing six limbs, including the clawed wings on its back. This is because it is an immature elder dragon itself.

Its overall appearance and stance resembles a quadrupedal wyvern. Its body is covered in dark plates, with notable features including the hidden feelers that are folded alongside its face, the lack of visible eyes and fanged jaws that are actually parts of its external armor plates. The other unique part is its wings, which are covered in jet-black fur that resemble a tattered and ragged cape. The claws on its wings are extremely prehensile, and even seem to possess opposable thumbs. They are used for grabbing, help at running and maintaining stability. When not engaged in combat, Gore Magala tends to cloak its body with its wings by latching them onto its back.

Abilities

Gore Magala emits pollen-like scales that are used to understand their environment and leave behind a trail that stick to predators and prey, allowing Gore Magala to sense them via heat. These scales also act as the vector for the pathogen known as the Frenzy Virus, which Gore Magala can also transmit with its volatile breath attacks or by scattering pools of its scales around the area.

Gore Magala does not have visible eyes and relies almost exclusively on its scales to detect threats. As it scatters more scales, Gore Magala's senses will gradually become sharper, and the color under its wings will slowly change and get brighter. When its senses are at their highest, two feelers will unfurl from its head and it will release large amounts of scales into the air. The hairs will darken the sky as if an eclipse was in the area and it will begin to walk on all six. This state is known as the Frenzy State, and is characterized by a tremendous increase in strength and aggression from Gore Magala's maximized perception.

Outside of its Frenzy Virus, Gore Magala primarily fights enemies using powerful slashes and grapples from its muscular clawed wingarms, which can easily pin down large monsters such as Goss Harag.

In Monster Hunter Frontier Gore Magala Is an Exotic Species and gains a new rage mode known as True Frenzy. In this state its wings will change shape and Frenzy Crystals will grow across its feelers and neck. It will attack much more ferociously and perform new attacks. Only the strongest Gore Magala can achieve this state.

Behavior

Gore Magala are highly aggressive monsters that will brutally attack nearly anything they encounter. However, they are also quite intelligent, as they can sometimes play dead to escape dangerous situations, and have been observed to hold grudges against individuals who injure them or drive them off. They are especially aggressive when it is almost time for them to molt into Shagaru Magala.

Habitat

Gore Magala is known for inhabiting places like the Ancestral Steppe, Jurassic Frontier, The Citadel, Forest and Hills, Primal Forest, Heaven's Mount, Sanctuary, Everwood, Ruined Pinnacle.

Chaotic Gore Magala is a Variant of Gore Magala introduced in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.

It is currently classified under ???, but will more than likely be classified as a Demi Elder once it returns.

Physiology

Despite the unique name, Chaotic Gore Magala is actually just a normal Gore Magala which has been traumatized or otherwise interrupted during the process of molting into a Shagaru Magala. Mature Shagaru Magala will use their virus to suppress the molting of all nearby Gore Magala, eliminating competition for their territory. Immature Gore Magala seem to only be left in their juvenile state, but those who were already in the process of molting will have their metamorphosis forcibly halted partway, leaving them as Chaotic Gore Magala.

As a result, only half of one side of its body has fully molted. Because of its improper molting process, it is left looking like an amalgamation of Shagaru Magala and Gore Magala, with a single vestigial horn and eye, and half of its body partially covered with golden scales. This state is highly unstable, and Chaotic Gore Magala will eventually die if left to their own devices.

Abilities

Chaotic Gore Magala retains all of the abilities of a Gore Magala, but boasts increased strength and ferocity due to being partially matured. Its partial transformation also gives it some of the Shagaru Magala's potential and abilities, such as increased power in its virus attacks. However, it is considerably more reckless than its mature form.

Behavior

The Chaotic Gore Magala is more violent and aggressive than a common Gore Magala. Its failed molting causes it to be in constant pain, and so it has an erratic, violent, and unpredictable nature that leads it to lash out at anything in its way. Because of this, Chaotic Gore Magala is considered a bigger threat than even Shagaru Magala. It's said that specimens can survive this phase and find a way to adapt.

Habitat

Chaotic Gore Magala has only ever been seen on rare occasions. It has thus far only been sighted in the Heaven's Mount and Everwood. In recent times, it has been seen in areas such as the Shrine Ruins.
