The Old Volcano, also known as the Volcanic Belt, is a location introduced in Monster Hunter. It consists of an active volcano and the surrounding area. Hunters start out at the base of the mountain, and may journey through the molten center. After emerging from the caves, they can begin their perilous ascent to the peak. Withering heat demands that hunters use cool drinks if they wish to venture into this land. Hunters should also be wary of strange rocks which can explode violently when damaged. Damage can occur either with physical impacts, or if a Barrel Bomb or other explosive attack (like a Rathalos fireball, or a Gravios heat wave) detonates close to the rock.
Due to the little vegetation to be found, the Volcano is home to only the heartiest of creatures, including the Basarios, Gravios, Azure Rathalos, Yian Kut-Ku, Iodrome and Shogun Ceanataur. The low vegetation also means poor gathering in the ways of herbs and insects. These two shortcomings are nonetheless far overcome by an absolutely overwhelming abundance of ores and minerals to be mined. The Volcano is also where Powderstones are collected for the Guild.
