(Monarchy System of Government) The Eldarian Union is ruled by a King and Queen who many believe may be immortal due to magic, and their word is law. Just about everything going on in the country is monitored on a giant map table through magical means that allows the government to maintain strict adherence to law and order and is observed through mages called Observerants who monitor the table at all hours for discord or nefarious activities. The entire nation is xenophobic and borders are fiercely protected. Only High Elves are allowed to live there. Visitors are allowed only when escorted, and specifically granted permission to do so. Dwarves are the exception, due to the longstanding problems the Eldarian Union has had with the dwarven nations, they are permanently banned from the country.

Architecture

Eldarian architecture is almost ethereal in nature. Elaborate marble or quartz is the favored material to build with, and structures are a blend of awe-inspiring majesty and careful consideration for the natural world. Often times incorporating trees and water into many of the buildings. The towns and villages look like something out of an awe inspired oil painting and take years to fully construct.

Clothing

Eldarian clothing is usually silk, velvet or anything gossamer in nature. They frown upon using too much leather or furs in their clothing as they view that as barbaric for everyday wear. Available in a wide array of colors, their clothing tends to be form fitting and flowing. Most of the elves preferring clothing that does not restrict movement in its design and is personally tailored most of the time.

Food

Typical cuisine includes heavy use of wheat, rice, beans, fruit, nuts and herbs that are crafted into gourmet arrangements. Livestock foods are extremely rare as Eldarian’s do not cultivate animals for eating and prefer a more plant-based diet. Drinks are usually fruit or tea leaf based and alcohol favors very fine tasting wines.

Culture

Music: Eldarian music heavily favors the harp and singing. High Elves find music an extremely important part of their culture and a good musician or singer is revered amongst the population. Their music conveys emotion almost unmatched by any other culture and can be very captivating to listen to.

Literature: Poetry and Artistic writings are encouraged and enjoyed by everyone, and popular literary works become the topic of conversation for decades. Eldarians are also obsessed with chronicles and history, so libraries and archives are common throughout the lands. In addition to this there is heavy study of magic in Eldarian culture, so all manner of scrolls, tomes, and books on magic are found everywhere.

Entertainment/Theater: Eldarian theater is mostly centered around musical plays. With most of them telling timeless stories or moralistic tales. Many of the performances have a symphony pit to provide music to the physical and singing performances on stage. Other forms of entertainment involve games of athletic prowess such as footraces, sporting events, and obstacle courses.

Technology and Magic

Technology is limited in Eldarian culture because they have never had much of a need for it. Many Eldarians consider it the tinkering of lesser races. Eldarian High Elves will study technology only until they have an understanding of its use or function, and then move on. Magic on the other hand is heavily used in the Eldarian Union. Nearly everyone in the country has an ability to use it, in one form or another, and it is ingrained in their everyday lives. So much so that it is second nature and barely noticed when it is being used.

History

The oldest and longest lasting nation in the world. Elves and dwarves were the first races to appear on the continent, and the High elves were creating cities and mastering magic from the very beginning. Much of the true details of their history are shrouded in mystery, because their former capital where much of it was documented, doesn’t exist anymore. Many High Elves believe they were the first race and at the height of their power nearly every region on the continent was settled by High Elves. However in their dominance they also grew arrogant, and started to believe they were the masters of the world. This was especially true in the east near the High Elf capital, which was located north of the mountains on the eastern side of the continent. This led to great resentments and tensions with the other races, and humans were treated like primitive savages. The resentments ran deepest with the dwarves in particular, who were equally proud, were just as widely spread across the continent, and just as ancient. Eventually tensions between the two races boiled over, and a massive worldwide war broke out, that caused almost cataclysmic upheaval in every corner of the continent. Entire regions of populations were wiped out, cities and settlements were destroyed, and centuries of knowledge and histories were lost. The war even changed the landscape in places where a scorched earth approach was taken. The dwarves were so through in their destruction of everything elven, that when they started their march on the High Elf capital, it led to the creation of the Sahalan deserts. Nothing of the High Elf capital remains, a large part of the northeastern continent is still recovering, and everything the High Elves had there is now lost to time. The Eldarian Union as a nation, is the remnants of that once great Elven kingdom and so they still hold all of the old grudges and many of the same customs and monarchy. Over the centuries after the war some of the hatreds have settled, and the humbling experiences learned from their prior arrogance have been learned. However the Eldarian Union still seeks to perhaps one day return their nation to its former glory. From their highly secure domain in the northeast corner of the continent, they are at the moment, content to simply wait things out. Choosing to protect what they have left and bide their time until such former glory can be achieved. The Eldarian Union as it stands now, is a nation of proud High Elves who want to remain in isolation from the rest of the world.
