Dark elves are cruel, selfish and hedonistic and so the rulers cultivate each of those three traits as pillars of governance with absolute authority. The Cruel Warlock oversees the military functions of the government. The Selfish Witch oversees all the slave trade and industry. And the Hedonistic Witch oversees all the support and hedonistic functions of Dark Elf society. Despite the rivalries between them for power and influence, each is bound to each other through unbreakable blood oaths that grant near immortality. Architecture

The Covenant architecture is imposing and ethereal in nature. Elaborate black marble, purple quartz, and dark wood, are the favored materials to build with. Structures are a blend of fear-inspiring majesty and careful consideration for the dark arts. Often times incorporating prison facilities and vaults into their buildings for the large slave trade their society encourages. The towns and villages look like something out of nightmare inspired oil painting and take years to fully construct.

Clothing

Clothing in The Dark Covenant can best be described as elegant but dark. Materials are usually silk, velvet or anything gossamer in nature. Available mostly in either black or dark purple colors, their clothing tends to be form fitting and flowing. Most of the Dark Elves preferring clothing that does not restrict movement in its design and is personally tailored most of the time.

Food

Typical Covenant cuisine includes heavy use of meats and breads. The Covenant Elves have also mastered magics that make their food extremely filling and nourishing so that it does not take much to sustain themselves. This allows them to live off the land with very little impact to it. Drinks are usually tea leaf based and are also magically enhanced for nourishment. Alcoholic drinks are also a big part of their hedonistic society so there is an abundance of fine wines in the country.

Culture

Music: Covenant music heavily favors the harp and singing. Dark Elves find music to be an indulgence and it reflects in the types of music they create which tends to be sweeping and epic in nature. A good musician or singer is capable of great influence if they can captivate their audience. Dark Elf music conveys emotion well but is often times used towards darker hedonistic intent..

Literature: Poetry and Artistic writings are encouraged and enjoyed by everyone, and popular literary works become the topic of conversation for decades. Dark Elves are also obsessed with dark magics, so libraries and archives are common throughout the lands with some of the most robust studies on forbidden spells. In addition to this there is heavy study of the other nations and races throughout the world to make them better at enticing or capturing new slaves, so all manner of scrolls, tomes, and books on magic are found everywhere.

Entertainment/Theater: Dark elf theater and entertainment is a hotbed of decadence and sinful pleasures. Sadism, masochism, gluttony, vanity, lust, using slaves as forms of entertainment and playthings are important parts of Dark Elf culture. Anything that feeds into their feeling of dominance over lesser beings and races, and provides entertaining distraction is all encouraged and cultivated.

Technology and Magic

Dark elves embrace and cultivate technological advances and industry. They have a rudimentary mastery of electricity and utilize plumbing. Gadgetry that can help keep slaves docile and under control are also highly encouraged. Magic is also equally prevalent throughout Dark Elf culture. Everything from food production to how they build their temples and fortresses are all done by magic. Usually darker and more sinister in nature.

History

Elves and dwarves were the first races to appear on the continent, and the Dark Elves at the time were mastering magic from the very beginning. Much of their history takes place after the great war between dwarves and elves. Originally High Elves, the Dark Elves believe they were the first race, and the dominant race on the planet. After the war, instead of settling back into peace or neutrality, the Dark Elves are the High Elves that are still actively seeking revenge and dominance of the continent. They still believe they are the masters of the world and the other races are savages or playthings for their leisure. Turning their magical research into the darker Arts during the war they eventually delved deep into depravity and corruption to the point where their normally white hair turned jet black. Creating a stigma and animosity that even the High Elves and Wood elves find repulsive and hostile. They are the fallen Elves and are solely responsible for the darkness that has crept into the world. Shunned by their elven kin, and locked in a hostile struggle with the dwarves the Dark Elves retreated to the far northwest of the continent. Initially to protect themselves from the other races and nations the Dark elves researched dark magics and technology to create the dark curse of lycanthropy and its many modifications. Creating entire races of shape changing beastly humanoid and animal hybrids and then set them loose on the world to spread chaos and destruction. It was highly effective for awhile and caused widespread panic and fear since the curse could be contracted by any of the other races. Eventually due to the joint efforts of both the Iron Dwarves and the Kingdom of Aldania the Therianthrope threats were pushed back into the northwest parts of the continent and now any person leaving the Wolven Marches is checked for curses. After their attempts at curses were contained, the Dark Elves were not content to stop with just defense, and switched to a more aggressive offense. This came in the form of even darker magics centered around death. In a sacrificial ritual that took the lives of hundreds of dark elves they created the Lich King. A powerful lich beyond anything that had been done before. With their weapon crafted, the dark elves placed the Lich King in the far northwest coast, in a great citadel, once again turning their creation loose on the world. The Dark Elves are so obsessed with their superiority that they no longer even view death as a problem, seeing it as something that is beneath them as well. The Dark Covenant as it stands today is a small nation of very powerful magic centric elves, that are cruel, selfish, and hedonistic.
