The Creation of Artificial Superhumans
Project Name: Nomu Project
Founder: All For One
Lead Scientist: Dr. Kyudai Garaki
Affiliation: All For One / League of Villains
Primary Research: Artificial Quirk Implantation
Main Facility: Jaku General Hospital — Underground Laboratory
Current Year: 2171
Status: Active — Highly Classified
The Nomu Project is a secret scientific operation established by All For One and Dr. Kyudai Garaki to create artificially enhanced humans capable of possessing multiple Quirks.
Through illegal experimentation, genetic modification, and advanced medical technology, ordinary human bodies are transformed into powerful biological weapons known as Nomu.
These creatures possess extraordinary physical capabilities, often exceeding those of experienced Pro Heroes.
Most Nomu lack independent thought, obeying commands without hesitation or concern for their own survival.
The project's ultimate purpose is to create an army capable of overwhelming hero society and serving All For One's ambitions.
Its existence remains completely hidden from the public.
The Nomu Project originated from All For One's desire to overcome the biological limitations of ordinary Quirk users.
Although his own Quirk allowed him to steal and distribute abilities, most humans could not safely withstand possessing multiple Quirks.
Attempting to implant too many abilities frequently resulted in severe physical damage, mental deterioration, or death.
To overcome these restrictions, All For One enlisted Dr. Kyudai Garaki, a brilliant scientist specializing in Quirk biology and human modification.
Garaki began researching methods of strengthening human bodies, preserving Quirk factors, and artificially increasing their capacity to contain multiple abilities.
His experiments eventually produced the first successful Nomu.
Nomu are created through extensive biological modification, generally using human corpses as their foundation.
Garaki subjects these bodies to experimental procedures designed to increase their physical strength, durability, and capacity for multiple Quirks.
Additional abilities are implanted through Quirk transfer or advanced surgical techniques.
The process dramatically alters the subject's physiology and often destroys higher brain functions.
Most resulting Nomu lose their memories, personalities, and independent decision-making capabilities.
They become obedient weapons capable of following orders from designated handlers.
Their appearances vary dramatically depending on the modifications performed.
Some resemble grotesquely muscular humans, while others possess wings, additional limbs, exposed brains, or severely mutated bodies.
Nomu are categorized according to their physical capabilities, intelligence, and number of implanted Quirks.
Lower-Tier Nomu: Basic artificial soldiers possessing enhanced physical abilities and limited Quirk combinations. They lack independent intelligence and require direct commands.
Middle-Tier Nomu: More developed specimens possessing greater strength, durability, and specialized physical modifications. They remain largely dependent on their handlers.
Upper-Tier Nomu: Extremely dangerous creations with extraordinary physical capabilities and multiple powerful Quirks. Some possess regeneration and specialized defensive abilities, making them capable of challenging experienced Pro Heroes.
High-End Nomu: The most advanced class of artificial superhumans. These creations are designed to retain intelligence, independent combat judgment, and numerous powerful abilities. Their development requires exceptionally complex procedures.
Near High-End Nomu: Advanced experimental specimens approaching High-End physical capabilities but lacking their fully developed intelligence.
The most advanced classifications represent the project's greatest scientific achievements, with much of their development remaining classified and experimental.
One of Garaki's earliest successful creations is Kurogiri, the mysterious guardian of Tomura Shigaraki.
Unlike most Nomu, Kurogiri possesses intelligence, speech, and a distinct personality.
His Quirk, Warp Gate, allows him to create portals through a dark mist-like substance.
However, Kurogiri was not born with this ability.
His body originally belonged to Oboro Shirakumo, a U.A. High School student who died during his hero training.
Shirakumo was a close friend of Shota Aizawa and Hizashi Yamada.
After his death, his body was obtained and modified through Garaki's experiments.
Using Shirakumo's original Cloud Quirk as a foundation, additional Quirk factors were combined to create Warp Gate.
Kurogiri was subsequently assigned to protect and assist Tomura Shigaraki.
His true identity remains unknown to Aizawa, Present Mic, and the general public.
Among the project's most dangerous creations is a specialized Upper-Tier Nomu developed specifically to defeat All Might.
Following All For One's devastating defeat, Garaki began preparing a biological weapon capable of countering the Symbol of Peace.
This Nomu possesses enormous physical strength, exceptional speed, and two particularly dangerous Quirks.
Shock Absorption: Allows the creature to absorb tremendous physical impacts, reducing the effectiveness of powerful punches and other blunt-force attacks.
Super Regeneration: Allows the Nomu to rapidly heal severe injuries, including the loss of entire limbs.
Combined with its artificially enhanced body, these abilities make the creature an exceptionally dangerous opponent.
Its purpose is simple.
Defeat and kill All Might.
The creature is being prepared as a weapon for the League of Villains, with the Unforeseen Simulation Joint at U.A. High School identified as a potential location for its deployment.
Dr. Garaki maintains multiple secret research facilities connected to All For One's criminal network.
One of his most important locations is an underground laboratory beneath Jaku General Hospital.
Hidden from ordinary medical personnel and the public, the facility contains advanced surgical equipment, experimental chambers, and specialized containment systems.
Garaki uses these laboratories to develop new Nomu, preserve Quirk factors, and conduct illegal research into human enhancement.
The facilities also support All For One's broader ambitions involving artificial Quirk transfer and biological modification.
Many of the project's test subjects were criminals or individuals whose bodies were obtained through illicit means.
The true extent of Garaki's experiments remains unknown.
Nomu possess several advantages over ordinary Quirk users.
Their enhanced bodies provide tremendous strength and durability, while multiple Quirks allow them to perform specialized combat roles.
Many possess regeneration or abilities designed to counter particular heroes.
However, Nomu are not invincible.
Most lack independent intelligence and depend on instructions from their handlers.
Their implanted Quirks can possess weaknesses similar to naturally inherited abilities.
Extreme physical damage, overwhelming attacks, or the destruction of critical biological structures can defeat even powerful specimens.
Additionally, the process of creating advanced Nomu is expensive, time-consuming, and scientifically demanding.
The Nomu Project provides All For One with powerful weapons capable of supporting Tomura Shigaraki's emerging organization.
Although Tomura commands the League of Villains, the project's scientific operations remain primarily under Garaki's control.
Kurogiri acts as Tomura's guardian and transportation specialist, while additional Nomu are developed for future operations.
All For One intends to use these creations to weaken professional heroes, spread fear, and undermine society's confidence in its protectors.
The project represents his belief that human beings can be reduced to tools in pursuit of absolute power.
In 2171, the Nomu Project remains active beneath Japan's criminal underworld.
Dr. Garaki continues his experiments, developing increasingly powerful artificial superhumans.
All For One secretly oversees the project while recovering from his injuries.
Kurogiri serves Tomura Shigaraki, while the specialized Anti-All Might Nomu awaits deployment.
Most professional heroes remain unaware that such creatures exist.
Jaku General Hospital continues operating publicly as a legitimate medical institution, concealing the research conducted beneath it.
The League of Villains possesses access to weapons far beyond what its limited membership would suggest.
And within hidden laboratories, more artificial monsters are being prepared.
The Nomu are not ordinary villains.
They are manufactured weapons created to destroy heroes.
And their existence threatens everything modern hero society stands for.
