Fairy and Pixie

Fairies hail from the Feywild, a realm teeming with magical beings and wonder. Though diminutive, they are not as tiny as their pixie and sprite kin. The earliest fairies spoke Elvish, Goblin, or Sylvan, but encounters with humans led many to learn Common as well. Imbued with the magic of their homeland, most fairies resemble Small elves with delicate insect-like wings. However, each fairy possesses a unique physical trait that sets them apart—perhaps bird-like wings, shimmering multicolored skin, oversized ears, a glittering mist, a tiny unicorn-like horn, insectile legs, the scent of fresh brownies, or a harmless chill that surrounds them. Players may choose or roll for these traits, or invent their own to suit their character.

As a fairy, your creature type is Fey, and your size is Small. You have a walking speed of 30 feet and a flying speed equal to your walking speed, though you cannot fly while wearing medium or heavy armor. Your innate magic grants you the druidcraft cantrip, and at 3rd level, you can cast faerie fire. At 5th level, you gain access to enlarge/reduce. These spells can be cast once per long rest using this trait, or with any appropriate spell slots you possess. You choose Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma as your spellcasting ability when selecting this race. With their whimsical charm and magical versatility, fairies bring a vibrant and unpredictable energy to any adventuring party.

Pixies are among the most intelligent and mischievous of the faerie-kind, dwelling in idyllic woodlands where they delight in playing pranks on travelers. Fun is their guiding principle, often defined by the merry tricks they pull—whether rapping on walls, extinguishing candle flames, or startling unsuspecting maidens. Naturally invisible, pixies appear as two-and-a-half-foot-tall elfin beings when visible, with long pointed ears and silver moth wings that grant them flight. They dress in bright colors, often wearing caps and curled-toe shoes, and inhabit deep forest caves where they dance in moonlit glades to the music of nocturnal creatures.

Pixies are true neutral by nature, though player character pixies may adopt any neutral alignment. They speak Pixie, Sprite, and Common, and receive hit dice according to their class. Their natural armor class is 5. Though often seen as frivolous by larger races, pixies are graceful and full of life, with a deep love for celebration and feasts. They loathe evil and reserve their most dangerous tricks for wicked monsters and bandits. While they may “borrow” items without hesitation, they are fiercely loyal to their clans and families, which often mimic human customs.

Despite their playful demeanor, pixies are capable adventurers. They take pride in martial skills and enjoy playing at war as much as they enjoy trickery. Pixie PCs often join adventuring parties led by those with a good sense of humor—especially if they’ve been the target of a pixie prank. Even on serious quests, pixies treat the journey as a game, never missing a chance to prank monsters or companions alike.

Pixies possess several magical advantages: they can become visible or polymorph at will, and once per day they can use know alignment, create persistent illusions, or cause permanent confusion with a touch (unless dispelled or cured). They can also cast dispel magic (as an 8th-level mage), dancing lights, and ESP once per day. While invisible, they can attack without penalty, and opponents who cannot detect invisible objects suffer a –4 penalty when trying to strike them. Pixies fly with a movement speed of 12 and maneuverability rated B.

However, they do have drawbacks. A successful dispel magic against 8th-level magic forces a pixie to become visible for one round, and they require twice as much experience to level up compared to humans of the same class. Pixies are considered monstrous due to their size, invisibility, and wings, and they harbor superstitions—particularly avoiding stagnant, filthy pools of water, which they view as omens of evil.
