The Founding of Sylvaran

Long before the rise of human kingdoms, the elves of Sylvaran dwelled beneath the vast ancient forests of eastern Mythea.

According to their histories, the first elves emerged during the Age of Stars when celestial beings blessed the Great Greenwood with fragments of living Starfire. These fragments took root within colossal trees whose descendants still stand today.

The elves settled among these sacred groves and founded the first forest cities, believing themselves stewards rather than rulers of the land.

Their earliest leader, Elyndor the First Warden, united the scattered clans into what would become the Sylvaran Covenant.

Unlike human kingdoms forged through conquest, Sylvaran was founded through agreement, shared purpose, and reverence for nature.

The Age of Living Trees

For centuries the elves prospered in isolation.

Rather than building sprawling stone cities, they shaped living trees into magnificent structures through powerful druidic magic.

Entire districts grew from:

  • Living oaks

  • Silverleaf trees

  • Crystalwood groves

  • Starbloom vines

This era produced many of Sylvaran's greatest wonders.

Some of these structures remain alive after more than a thousand years.

The War of Axes

Nearly nine hundred years ago, human settlers pushed into Sylvaran territory seeking timber and farmland.

The conflict that followed became known as The War of Axes.

While the elves possessed powerful magic and skilled archers, they lacked the numbers of the expanding human kingdoms.

The war lasted nearly fifty years.

Ultimately peace was achieved through diplomacy rather than victory.

The resulting treaties established the modern borders of Sylvaran and Vhal'Tor.

The conflict remains a defining moment in both cultures.

The Covenant Reforms

Following the War of Axes, the elves realized isolation could no longer protect them.

The Covenant established:

  • Diplomatic embassies

  • Trade routes

  • Ranger patrols

  • Arcane academies

These reforms transformed Sylvaran into a major power while preserving its traditions.

The Emerald Concord

Five centuries ago, several rival elven houses nearly plunged the realm into civil war over succession disputes and interpretations of ancient traditions.

To prevent further division, the leaders created the Emerald Concord.

The Concord established:

  • Shared governance

  • Representation of all major houses

  • Limits on individual authority

  • The office of First Warden

The system remains in place today.

The Modern Covenant

Today the Sylvaran Covenant is one of the oldest and most stable powers in Mythea.

Its strength lies not in wealth or military conquest but in knowledge, magic, and stewardship.

The Covenant views itself as guardian of the natural world and protector of ancient wisdom.

Government

The First Warden

The highest authority within Sylvaran.

Current holder:

Elyndra

A respected elven leader known for wisdom, diplomacy, and mastery of both martial and magical traditions.

Culture

Sylvaran society values:

  • Wisdom

  • Patience

  • Beauty

  • Balance

  • Stewardship

Elves often measure success not by wealth but by what they preserve for future generations.

A common saying among the Covenant is:

"Plant trees whose shade you will never live to see."

Architecture

Sylvaran architecture is unlike any other realm.

Structures are grown rather than built.

Common features include:

  • Living bridges

  • Tree towers

Its forces consist primarily of:

Wardens

Powerful druids and nature mages.

The forests themselves often become weapons against invaders.

Trade is carefully regulated to prevent exploitation of natural resources.

The Lady of the Moon

Patron of wisdom, dreams, and intuition.

The Green Father

Patron of growth, nature, and renewal.

The Star Mother

Believed to have planted the first Starfire within the world.

Though old wounds from the War of Axes remain in historical memory.

Velvet Sultanate

Friendly trade relations.

Anvil Council

Mutual respect.

Court of Veils

Cautious diplomacy.

Current Era

The Sylvaran Covenant faces new challenges:

  • Ancient Starfire sites are awakening.

  • Strange creatures emerge from forgotten groves.

  • Younger elves question ancient traditions.

  • Foreign powers seek access to sacred forests.

Many believe the Covenant stands on the edge of another transformative age.

The Heart of Sylvaran

The people of Sylvaran believe:

"We do not own the forest. We belong to it."

This principle has guided the Covenant for over a thousand years and remains the foundation of one of the most beautiful and enduring civilizations in all of Mythea.
