Before the stars burned across the heavens, before the first kingdoms rose, and before the Celestial Courts took shape, there existed only two eternal beings.
Vorathys.
And Vespera.
According to the oldest myths of Mythea, they were not created. They simply were.
Vorathys, known as the First Flame, embodied Want itself. He was the first hunger, the first ambition, the first desire. Every longing to possess, experience, achieve, consume, conquer, create, or become originates from him.
Vespera, known as the Velvet Star, embodied Longing. She was the first dream, the first temptation, the first vision of what might be. She is the yearning for beauty, meaning, intimacy, possibility, and fulfillment.
Before they found one another, existence was empty.
Vorathys hungered but knew not for what.
Vespera dreamed but had nothing to dream about.
When they met, creation began.
Desire gained direction.
Dreams gained purpose.
The stars ignited.
The heavens unfolded.
Life became possible.
For this reason, many theologians teach that all things originate not from creation itself, but from the meeting of Desire and Longing.
The relationship between Vorathys and Vespera is known as the Dance Eternal.
Unlike many divine pairings, they are neither faithful nor exclusive.
Neither demands monogamy.
Neither promises exclusivity.
Throughout history, myth tells of countless lovers, companions, muses, heroes, rulers, artists, and even gods who have shared their affection.
Entire epics describe the romances of Vorathys.
Entire libraries have been written about the lovers of Vespera.
Yet every story ends the same way.
No matter how far they wander.
No matter whom they embrace.
No matter what passions consume them.
Eventually they return to one another.
This return is not viewed as obligation.
It is viewed as inevitability.
The faithful often say:
"Many may share our journey. Only one shares our destination."
Because of this, Vorathys and Vespera are often regarded as the divine patrons of freedom within relationships, mutual desire, personal agency, and honest longing.
Most religions teach mortals to resist temptation.
The followers of Vorathys and Vespera teach something different.
Desire itself is not evil.
Longing itself is not weakness.
Both are natural forces.
What matters is understanding them.
The faithful believe that every mortal action begins with desire.
A merchant desires prosperity.
A scholar desires knowledge.
A king desires legacy.
An artist desires expression.
A lover desires intimacy.
An adventurer desires discovery.
Even virtue begins with a desire to become better.
Likewise, every dream begins with longing.
Longing for connection.
Longing for purpose.
Longing for beauty.
Longing for something greater than what currently exists.
Together, Vorathys and Vespera represent the two forces that move every soul.
Vespera walks freely between the High Court and the Low Court.
She belongs to neither.
Many theologians refer to her as the Seventh Seat.
Others consider her a divine heresy.
She governs:
Desire
Temptation
Aspiration
Seduction
Fascination
Beauty
Longing
Her symbol is a golden rose blooming around a black pearl.
Her sacred colors are Rose Gold, Velvet Crimson, and Black Pearl.
Vespera teaches that every desire reveals a truth.
People are not defined by what they claim to value.
They are defined by what they truly want.
Because of this belief, she is the patron deity of the Order of the Gilded Rose.
The Roses teach:
Coin is a transaction.
Information is a transaction.
Affection is a transaction.
Influence is a transaction.
Trust is a transaction.
To understand desire is to understand people.
The central teaching of Vespera is known as the Sacred Bargain:
"Every desire has a price. Every price reveals a desire."
Her temples often resemble salons, gardens, theaters, galleries, and houses of hospitality rather than traditional churches.
Her worship celebrates beauty, conversation, diplomacy, performance, and the exploration of longing in all its forms.
Vorathys also walks between the Courts.
Like Vespera, he belongs fully to neither.
He governs:
Want
Hunger
Instinct
Passion
Freedom
Chaos
Need
His symbol is a crimson spiral surrounding a black star.
Unlike nearly every other deity in Mythea, Vorathys possesses no formal priesthood.
There are no churches dedicated to him.
No official temples.
No recognized hierarchy.
No sacred cities.
His worship is deeply personal.
Many outsiders describe his followers as cultists, though most reject the label.
Followers of Vorathys believe that the body itself is sacred.
Every heartbeat.
Every breath.
Every sensation.
Every desire.
The body is considered a living temple.
Because of this belief, acts of passion, celebration, artistic expression, physical challenge, and intimacy may all serve as forms of worship.
His followers gather wherever desire is expressed honestly.
Around campfires.
Within private chambers.
At festivals.
On mountaintops.
At sea.
In battle.
In art.
Wherever people fully embrace what drives them.
A common saying among his followers is:
"The gods ask what is right. Vorathys asks what you want."
Vorathys and Vespera are said to dwell within a realm known as the Endless Wild.
Unlike the ordered domains of the High Court or the shadowed territories of the Low Court, the Endless Wild exists between them.
It is a realm of instinct and possibility.
Ancient forests.
Crimson skies.
Endless oceans.
Moonlit deserts.
Wild gardens.
Forgotten roads.
Every landscape reflects a different form of desire or longing.
Many mystics claim that dreams of the Endless Wild are invitations from the Eternal Lovers.
The High Court teaches mortals what they may become.
The Low Court teaches what they may become if temptation rules them.
Vorathys and Vespera offer neither judgment nor commandments.
Instead, they offer questions.
Vespera asks:
"What do you long for?"
Vorathys asks:
"What do you want?"
The answers to those questions shape every mortal life.
For this reason, many philosophers believe that the Eternal Lovers are not merely gods.
They are the forces that make choice itself possible.
Without Vespera there would be no dreams.
Without Vorathys there would be no ambition.
Without either, the world would stand still.
And so the Dance Eternal continues, as it has since the first stars were born, guiding every heart that dares to desire and every soul that dares to dream.
