Description
The Age of Nations marks the final centuries before humanity expanded beyond Earth. As climate instability, automation, and resource shortages reshaped civilization, traditional governments steadily lost influence to multinational corporations capable of controlling food production, communications, transportation, medicine, and security. Megacities replaced nations as the primary centers of civilization, with towering arcologies housing hundreds of millions beneath self-contained infrastructures. During this period, cybernetic enhancement became commonplace, artificial intelligence entered nearly every aspect of daily life, and the first true Androids were granted legal personhood. Clone labor programs and advanced genetic engineering transformed medicine while simultaneously creating fierce political debate. Although humanity experienced incredible technological growth, conflicts over dwindling resources and economic inequality culminated in the Corporate Resource Wars. These wars permanently altered Earth's political landscape, leading to the collapse of many national governments and the rise of Corporate Councils. It was during the final decades of this era that construction began on New Echelon, envisioned as humanity's first truly independent megacity capable of surviving whatever future awaited the species. Few citizens realized that the discoveries ending this age would forever change humanity's place in the universe.
