The New Echelon Peace Department, commonly known as the N.E.P.D., serves as the primary law enforcement and emergency response organization within New Echelon. Unlike planetary militaries, the Department focuses on maintaining civil order inside the megacity's countless districts while coordinating with Designation forces and Helix Directive personnel during large-scale emergencies.
Its responsibilities include criminal investigations, organized crime suppression, cybercrime enforcement, disaster response, hostage rescue, traffic control, public safety, and anomaly containment until specialized agencies arrive. Officers receive extensive training in conventional policing as well as urban combat, cybernetic crime investigation, and first response against biological or Void-related incidents.
