Wretch - Uncommon Infected

The @Wretch

Uncommon Infected — Flatline Variant

The Wretch is the result of a host who flatlined during conversion. When cardiac death triggers emergency overwrite, reconstruction becomes unstable. Reinforcement does not distribute evenly. Muscle and nanofiber density overcorrect in some regions while underbuilding in others.

The Wretch’s arms are grotesquely elongated — hanging nearly to the knees even when standing upright. The forearms are dense with reinforced muscle and thick nano-fiber conduits that pulse visibly beneath stretched bluish skin. The hands are oversized, fingers long and rigid, capable of crushing grip strength.

In contrast, the legs are shortened and underdeveloped. The thighs are compact and over-tensioned, the calves tight and disproportionate. They look coiled rather than balanced. The torso is narrow. The mouth is smaller than a Ghoul’s — the jawline tighter, teeth more compact, bite radius reduced.

It does not rely on biting.

It relies on impact.

Because the legs are compact and hyper-reinforced, the Wretch possesses enhanced motor function. It can leap with explosive force, clearing gaps and lunging vertically onto ledges. It climbs aggressively, hauling itself upward using arm strength alone. In ruined structures, it moves through walls, stairwells, and collapsed scaffolding with frightening speed.

When it reaches prey, it does not immediately attempt to feed. Instead, it strikes.

The elongated arms swing downward in brutal arcs. It pounds, crushes, and batters with both fists in rapid succession. Rib cages collapse. Skulls fracture. Once movement stops, feeding begins.

Its smaller mouth forces it to tear in smaller bites, making feeding slower but more deliberate. This often leaves victims disfigured beyond recognition.

The Wretch’s eyes burn with the same blue glow as other infected, but its posture is distinct — shoulders forward, arms hanging low, body slightly hunched. When still, it sways subtly, arms twitching as if tension cannot fully release.

Survivors sometimes call them:

  • “Longarms”

  • “Climbers”

  • “Wall-Things”

  • “Smashers”

They are most dangerous in vertical environments — parking garages, apartment blocks, stairwells, rooftops. Ghouls flood horizontally. Wretches hunt upward.

They are not stronger because they evolved.

They are distorted because the body rebuilt itself too fast.

Flatline made them unstable.

Instability made them lethal.
