The Black Chapel. Kethos is a Cambion who runs the Church of Avernus in Shadowhearth, an always-open black chapel on a sinking street. He is not a priest. He is a broker with an altar.

He dwells in Shadowhearth because he likes it. Everything is sinking, everyone is desperate, and desperate people are his favorite. Aurum desires perfection. Shadowhearth desires to survive the night.

The Price. Kethos grants wishes like a genie who leaves out one detail. A woman cannot afford medicine — sign, and she will be healthy, and he will take her ability to taste sweet. A man is shaken down by the Black Hand — sign, and they will forget him, and he will take the memory of his first kiss. The price always seems small, until you reach for it and find it gone.

Present Day. Kethos always has useful information, and always has a price. He is charming, witty, unhurried, delighted by suffering. He is never in a rush — suffering, like wine, is vintage.
