King Draxos Vane
Medium Humanoid (Human), Lawful Evil
“Keep it perfect.” — Draxos Vane
The Gilded Coward. King Draxos Vane is the ruler of Aurum City. A human man in his fifties. He is not a fighter. He is a coward who made a deal.
Twenty-five years ago his queen, Bonnie, was taken by Ferrum raiders. He rode to Ferrum’s edge, saw the Pit, and was too afraid to go in. He returned and lied that she had died. That night, praying not for her return but for his own safety, something answered. Mammonax answered.
The Pact. The devil showed Draxos what lay beneath Aurum — the body of Aurix, the golden dragon, dead and vast, still bleeding wealth into the stone. Mammonax promised him the gold to build perfect, untakeable walls.
The price was nothing then. “Nothing now. Keep it perfect. One day I will collect.”
Draxos has spent twenty-five years paying interest without knowing it. Every gilding, every purge, every beggar swept from a clean street, every imperfection covered with gold — all of it is payment.
Present Day. Draxos is paranoid about perfection, obsessed with Aurum appearing untarnished. He covers poverty with gold leaf. He is terrified of being seen as weak, and has never told a soul about Mammonax. He wants walls that never fall. A city that can never be taken. To never feel afraid again.
He is not the final power in Aurum. He is the middleman.
