The Arlong Pirates

The Arlong Pirates were a crew of fish-man supremacists led by Arlong the Saw, a former officer of the Sun Pirates. Founded upon hatred and domination, they ruled the East Blue’s Cocoyasi Village through fear, tribute, and violence until their fall at the hands of the Straw Hat Pirates.

They are no longer an active power — but their defeat marked the first great ripple of Luffy’s rise, and their shadow still lingers in whispers of fish-man resentment.

Their former leader was Arlong, the Saw-Tooth Shark.

Philosophy & Structure

The Arlong Pirates lived by Arlong’s cruel creed:

  • Fish-Men Are Superior – Humans are weak, destined to serve.

  • Power Is Tribute – Villages must pay or perish.

  • Hate Is the Legacy – The surface world owed them for centuries of suffering.

Arlong ruled as an absolute tyrant, supported by his most loyal lieutenants.

Members & Factions Within

The core of the crew included:

  • Arlong – Captain, wielding brutal strength and a saw-blade nose.

  • Hatchan (Hachi) – Six-armed swordsman, more kind-hearted than the rest.

  • Kuroobi – Karate master, loyal enforcer.

  • Chew – Sharpshooter with a penchant for cruelty.

  • Human Collaborators – Enslaved locals forced to collect tribute.

Territory & Influence

At their height, the Arlong Pirates controlled swathes of East Blue:

  • Arlong Park – Their fortress in Cocoyasi Village, a monument to domination.

  • Surrounding Islands – Tributary settlements forced to pay monthly offerings.

  • East Blue Waters – Their infamy cast a shadow far larger than their actual fleet.

All of it collapsed when Luffy toppled Arlong, shattering their reign.

Codes & Traditions

The Arlong Pirates upheld brutal customs:

  • The Tribute Rule – Every human village paid or was destroyed.

  • The Blood Tax – Defiance was punished with executions or enslavement.

  • The Law of Hatred – Arlong’s speeches instilled resentment against humans, drilled into his crew.

Symbols & Customs

  • Symbol: A saw-nosed shark skull with crossbones.

  • Colors: Blue and black.

  • Customs: Drenched feasts after tribute, tattoos of Arlong’s sigil, and constant reminders of fish-man “superiority.”

  • Sayings: “The weak are born to serve.” / “The sea belongs to fish-men.”

Allies & Enemies

  • Allies: Few true allies, though they carried the legacy of the Sun Pirates in twisted form.

  • Enemies: The Straw Hat Pirates, Nami’s rebellion, and the humans of Cocoyasi.

  • Neutral: Other East Blue crews, who avoided them out of fear.

Sayings of the Arlong Pirates

  • “Fish-men are kings of the sea.”

  • “Humans pay, or humans drown.”

  • “The sea remembers its chains.”

The Arlong Pirates are no longer a power — but their fall was the spark of something greater: the rise of the Straw Hats, the rekindling of the Sun Pirates’ true legacy, and the foreshadowing of the deep struggles yet to come between the seas above and below.
