The Nine Red Scabbards

The Nine Red Scabbards are the sworn retainers of Kozuki Oden, samurai of Wano Country, who once journeyed aboard the ships of Whitebeard and Roger. Bound by loyalty unto death, they stand as the last defenders of Oden’s dream — to open Wano’s borders and restore the Kozuki clan.

Though hidden in Wano’s shadowed land, their names drift across the seas as tales of unwavering honor. They are not a pirate crew nor an army, but a brotherhood of blades, sharpened by grief and waiting for their time.

Their current leader is Kozuki Oden’s will itself, carried by the nine who remain.

Philosophy & Structure

The Scabbards embody the samurai way, tempered by Oden’s ideals:

  • Loyalty Unto Death – Their lives belong to Oden’s legacy.

  • The Kozuki Dream – Wano must one day open to the world.

  • Nine as One – They are many blades, but one oath.

They hold no ranks beyond the bonds of their oaths; each fights as equal, each bleeds as brother or sister.

Members & Factions Within

The Nine are as varied as the lands of Wano itself, each a blade with its own spirit:

  • Kin’emon – Foxfire samurai, de facto leader.

  • Kanjuro – Artist and deceiver, hiding a darker truth.

  • Raizo – Ninja of the Mist, master of hidden arts.

  • Kawamatsu – Fish-man samurai, loyal beyond exile.

  • Denjiro – Strategist and master swordsman, hiding in plain sight.

  • Ashura Doji – Bandit turned loyal vassal, fierce and scarred.

  • Inuarashi – Duke of the Mokomo Dukedom, warrior of the day.

  • Nekomamushi – Guardian of the night, jovial yet deadly.

  • Izo – Gunman who later sailed with Whitebeard, still bound by Oden’s spirit.

Territory & Influence

Though confined to Wano, the Scabbards’ influence reaches beyond in whispers and memory:

  • Kuri – Oden’s domain, where their bond was forged.

  • The Flower Capital – Their homeland, now under Orochi’s corruption.

  • The New World – Where echoes of Oden’s name still inspire pirates and wanderers.

Codes & Traditions

The Scabbards follow the way of Wano’s samurai, but shaped by Oden’s teachings:

  • The Oath of the Blade – To live and die for Oden’s dream.

  • The Red Scabbard Bond – Nine blades drawn as one.

  • The Watch of Dawn and Dusk – Inuarashi and Nekomamushi’s eternal vow, night and day united.

Symbols & Customs

  • Symbol: The Kozuki clan’s crest — a moon with cascading waves.

  • Colors: Crimson and white.

  • Customs: Shared meals before battle, offerings at shrines to Oden, and the wearing of red in remembrance.

  • Sayings: “Nine blades, one oath.” / “We are Oden’s shadow.”

Allies & Enemies

  • Allies: The Kozuki clan, Mink Tribe, and all who honor Oden’s will.

  • Enemies: The Kurozumi clan, Kaido and his Beasts Pirates, and all who would keep Wano in chains.

  • Neutral: The outside world, though their fate is bound to it.

Sayings of the Red Scabbards

  • “Our lord lives through us.”

  • “The borders of Wano are not walls, but chains — and chains must break.”

  • “A blade drawn for Oden never dulls.”

The Nine Red Scabbards are not a nation nor a fleet. They are memory sharpened into steel, a brotherhood of loyalty and loss, waiting for the moment when their blades may cut open the dawn.
