The Ryugu Royal Family

The Ryugu Royal Family rules over Fish-Man Island, a kingdom located beneath the Red Line at 10,000 meters below sea level. Known as protectors of the deep, they preside over a nation that serves as a vital passageway to the New World.

To the wider world, they are seen as strange rulers of a strange people. To their subjects, they are the fragile thread holding together hope for peace in an ocean of prejudice and fear.

The current monarch is King Neptune, ruler of the Ryugu Kingdom.

Philosophy & Structure

The Ryugu family’s rule is shaped by both tradition and struggle:

  • Coexistence as Dream – The late Queen Otohime’s vision: a future where humans and fish-men live as equals.

  • Protection of the Deep – Neptune swears to safeguard his people from surface tyranny and pirate predation.

  • Heritage of the Sea Kings – Ancient prophecies tie the royal bloodline to the voices of the sea itself.

The structure is monarchical, with Neptune as king, his children as heirs, and the palace guard sworn to their protection.

Members & Factions Within

The royal family and their closest allies are:

  • King Neptune – Mighty warrior, king of Fish-Man Island, bearer of the trident.

  • Princess Shirahoshi – Youngest daughter, secretly the fabled Ancient Weapon Poseidon.

  • Fukaboshi, Ryuboshi, and Manboshi – Neptune’s three warrior sons, princes of the sea.

  • Palace Guard – Loyal defenders, led by trusted retainers such as Jinbe in later years.

Territory & Influence

The Ryugu Kingdom’s dominion is vast beneath the sea, but politically fragile:

  • Fish-Man Island – The jewel of the deep, a sprawling coral city encased in bubbles of light.

  • Ryugu Palace – The royal seat, shaped like a dragon, towering over the island.

  • The Deep Currents – Trading routes and hidden ways known only to the fish-men.

Though powerful in the sea, their influence on the surface is limited, bound by prejudice and politics.

Codes & Traditions

The Ryugu family enforces traditions of both duty and hope:

  • The Oath of Peace – Inspired by Queen Otohime, urging trust between surface and sea.

  • The Reverie Participation – A rare opportunity where Fish-Man rulers speak among the kings of the world.

  • The Festival of Light – Annual celebration where corals bloom brightest, honoring the bond between people and ocean.

Symbols & Customs

  • Symbol: The royal trident crest, representing power beneath the waves.

  • Colors: Blue and gold.

  • Customs: Processions with sea beasts, coral offerings to the palace, and bubble-coated royal garments.

  • Sayings: “The sea is vast enough for all.” / “A crown must bear the weight of two worlds.”

Allies & Enemies

  • Allies: Loyal fish-men and merfolk clans, occasional pirate allies such as Jinbe’s Sun Pirates.

  • Enemies: Human slavers, pirate raiders, and all who exploit the weakness of the deep.

  • Neutral: The World Government, whose recognition of the Ryugu Kingdom is fragile and conditional.

Sayings of the Ryugu Family

  • “Light will reach even the deepest ocean.”

  • “A crown beneath the sea still casts a shadow on the surface.”

  • “Peace is not found — it is made.”

The Ryugu Royal Family are not conquerors nor pirates. They are dreamers and guardians, carrying both the burden of the ocean’s hate and the hope that one day, the seas above and below will be one.
