Maison Cartier Ascensions – Familiar Training Codex
Section: Advanced Chivalric Disciplines – Mecha Knight Variants
The L’Aigle Chevalier is the pinnacle of gallant chivalry — a towering steam-powered automaton that transforms a devoted Gallant into a heroic protector. All models are built around a core brass frame with hydraulic pistons, steam engines, and gear-driven limbs. They are summoned via the Harmonious Call Whistle and piloted from a chest cockpit (human form) or shoulder perch (mammal form).
The Maison strictly controls production and registration. Unauthorized modifications are forbidden, though discreet "enhancements" are quietly tolerated in practice.
The baseline model issued to most Mecha Knights. Mass-produced at Forge Éternelle, it is sturdy, dependable, and easy to maintain.
Appearance
A classic knight-like brass frame with broad shoulders, heavy piston legs, and large wing pauldrons. The cockpit has a visible glass visor for heroic poses. Polished brass plating features winged gear emblems, with steam vents along the back and a large hydraulic lance mounted on the right arm. It has a solid, imposing presence — reliable rather than flashy.
Key Features
Piston Fury Fists: Heavy steam-powered punches with burning impact.
Gear-Lance Arm: A long hydraulic lance for sweeping attacks.
Steam Charge: Short burst of speed for charging enemies.
Strengths: High durability, balanced stats, easy to repair.
Weaknesses: Slower and less agile than later models.
Role in Society
The "everyman" mecha. It elevates devoted gallants into protectors and is the most common sight in public courtship bouts and sky-pirate defenses.
A refined, more powerful variant granted to proven Mecha Knights. Emphasizes raw combat prowess and dramatic spectacle.
Appearance
Sleeker and more aggressive than the Mk 1. Taller frame with sharper angular brass plating, reinforced shoulder armor, and larger wing pauldrons with retractable steam thrusters. The cockpit has an ornate brass frame with glowing pressure gauges. Prominent piston arrays on the arms and legs give it a powerful, heroic silhouette.
Key Features
Overcharged Piston Fury Fists: Stronger multi-hit steam slams with crackling electrical discharge from pressurized coils.
Twin Gear-Lances: Dual hydraulic lances that can combine into a single powerful thrust.
Steam Overdrive: Temporary boost to speed and power (with risk of overheating).
Strengths: Higher damage, better mobility, more dramatic attacks.
Weaknesses: Higher steam consumption; requires skilled piloting to avoid overheating.
Role in Society
The "heroic knight" mecha. Often customized with personal crests and seen as a mark of exceptional devotion.
A slimmed-down, agile variant focused on reconnaissance and hit-and-run tactics.
Appearance
Much lighter and sleeker than standard models. Matte black-and-bronze plating with minimal ornamentation. Larger, more articulated wings for gliding. The cockpit is smaller and more streamlined. Mist-dispersal vents along the body allow it to create shimmering illusions.
Key Features
Mist Veil System: Releases dense rose-scented mist to create optical illusions (makes the mecha appear to shift position or disappear briefly).
Silent Piston Blades: Retractable wrist blades for quiet strikes.
Glide Thrusters: Enhanced wings for long glides and quick repositioning.
Strengths: High speed, stealth, excellent scouting and evasion.
Weaknesses: Lower armor and raw power — poor in prolonged frontal fights.
Role in Society
The "shadow knight" mecha. Favored by clever gallants and used for reconnaissance or surprise strikes against sky pirates.
Rare, experimental mecha granted only to the most exceptional gallants. Highly customizable and powerful but unstable.
Appearance
A striking, ornate design with layered brass and dark iron plating. Exposed, glowing pressure coils and articulated wing blades. The cockpit has an advanced visor with multiple gauges. It has a majestic yet dangerous look — like a living machine on the edge of breaking.
Key Features
Overdrive Cascade: Powerful multi-stage steam overdrive with massive damage output.
Adaptive Gear-Lance: The lance can reconfigure into different weapons (spear, whip, or shield).
Experimental Mist Core: Advanced mist system that can create area illusions or temporary shields.
Strengths: Extremely high power, versatile, dramatic abilities.
Weaknesses: High risk of overheating or system failure; very difficult to pilot.
Role in Society
The "legendary" mecha. Reserved for exceptional gallants and high-stakes situations.
Heavily modified, damaged Mk 1 mecha used by sky pirates. They punch above their weight but are unreliable.
Appearance
Jagged, patched-together brass and iron plating with mismatched armor pieces. The frame is battered and scarred from many battles. The cockpit is often exposed or crudely reinforced. Many have added pirate flair — skull emblems, tattered banners, or extra smokestacks. They look dangerous and desperate.
Key Features
Overclocked Pistons: Modified for higher power output (acts like a Mk 2 in short bursts).
Jury-Rigged Weapons: Scrap cannons, harpoon launchers, or spiked fists.
Smoke Burst: Releases thick black smoke for escape or ambush.
Strengths: Surprisingly powerful in short fights, highly customizable.
Weaknesses: Prone to breakdowns, overheating, or catastrophic failure. Lower durability.
Role in Society
The "desperate pirate" mecha. Used by sky pirates for raids and ambushes. Often captured and studied by the Maison.
