House Fang: The Pack of Shadows

House Fang: The Pack of Shadows

Overview:

House Fang is one of the most mysterious and feared noble families within the Kingdom of Banana. Known for their immense size, standing at heights of 7 to 8 feet, and for their ferocity, the Fang are a people steeped in both ancient horrors and survival instincts. Once a tribe of cannibals, their name became synonymous with criminality, lawlessness, and the monstrous side of humanity, giving rise to the word "criminal" in Banana's lexicon.

In the ancient era, the Fang were lycans, part of a massive pack that was blessed with the power to shift into dire wolves—the last known species of their kind in Banana. The curse that was placed upon them, however, turned their magical gifts into a tragedy. The lycan transformation was tied to an immense mana supply, and this curse made it so that lycans could not use magic, despite their vast reserves of magical energy. This curse, combined with a devastating virus that targeted those with high mana, caused their near-extinction.

The last remaining members of House Fang were saved by their leader Akuchi, who adapted and evolved the clan, forcing them to embrace new ways of survival. Through soul-binding magic, a power rooted in dark arts, Akuchi restored their strength, transforming the Fang into a powerful and cunning force that used their physical prowess, stealth, and agility to thrive as elite assassins and covert warriors.

Today, House Fang is feared for their incredible combat abilities, their unrivaled stealth, and their ability to move unseen through the heart of Nova and beyond. Despite their reputation as monsters, they are highly valued for their military prowess, especially in covert operations, and they stand as one of the four major noble houses of Banana, though their true nature is known only to a select few.

History and Origins:

The Early Days: The Pack of Lycans

Before the Bronze Age, the Fang were a small but proud clan that resided in the forests of Banana. Their lands were difficult to traverse, and they kept to themselves, existing on the edges of civilization. They were lycans—humans cursed by the bite of the last dire wolf in Banana’s history. These early dire lycans had the ability to transform into massive, wolf-like creatures with immense strength and speed, but also with a deep connection to magic.

The Fang, as a tribe, were strong, but their power lay in unity—their pack mentality and rituals made them an unstoppable force. They were feared by neighboring tribes for their sheer brutality, but they adhered to a code of survival, only hunting those who trespassed on their territory. Their shape-shifting abilities made them formidable hunters, and their teeth and claws were their weapons, for they never needed anything else.

The rest of Banana viewed them with fear and superstition, but to the Fang, this was simply the way of the world. They were in tune with the land, the moon, and the magic that flowed through their blood.

The Fall: The Curse and the Virus

However, the magic that gave them their lycanthropy also cursed them in a way that the Fang would come to understand only after the collapse of their once-great tribe. The mana that fueled their transformations began to have unforeseen consequences. This immense power was tied to the lycan change, but at a cost—lycans could not use magic in any other form, no matter how much mana they held.

As the virus spread across the land, the Fang were stricken by it just as the Almoni had been. This virus affected anyone with a high magical capacity, and as it ravaged the Fang, their numbers dwindled from around 10,000 to barely 600 survivors. Worse yet, the lycan transformation ceased altogether, leaving the Fang unable to shift into their powerful wolf forms.

With their once-dominant form of combat lost, the Fang had to adapt or perish. This was when Akuchi, the last Alpha and future head of the Fang family, stepped forward to lead his people out of extinction.

Akuchi's Leadership and the "Black Fog" Era:

Akuchi, recognizing the futility of their survival without their former powers, led the Fang to adapt to their new world. While they could no longer rely on their lycan forms, they possessed a unique advantage—immense magical potential. The virus had not fully eradicated their mana, only rendered it unusable in its original form. This realization sparked a revolution in Fang thinking.

Akuchi's ingenuity led to the development of Alpha Bonding, a form of soul magic that allowed lycans to bind themselves to an Alpha and access their hidden powers once more. This powerful and dark magic allowed the Fang to unlock their full strength without transforming into their wolf forms. Instead, they began to form packs, with the Alpha serving as the focus of the pack’s magical power. The Alpha’s soul magic would bond the pack together, enhancing their physical abilities, stealth, and agility to superhuman levels.

During this period, known as the Black Fog, the Fang were pushed to their limits as they faced waves of pirates, bandits, and invading forces. Their fortifications were small but well-defended, and Akuchi led them in strategic warfare, using the night and shadows to his advantage. The Fang emerged from this period not as barbaric cannibals, but as a new breed of warrior—silent assassins and lethal mercenaries, capable of infiltrating places where no other force could.

The Modern Fang: Assassins and Soldiers

The Rise of the Fang in Banana’s Politics:

Today, House Fang has adapted to a more modern and covert role in the Kingdom of Banana. While still a feared and mysterious noble house, the Fang’s reputation for assassination and covert warfare has made them indispensable to the kingdom’s military apparatus. Their elite mercenary force is often hired by the Morvain and other houses to carry out covert operations, from infiltrating enemy strongholds to eliminating political rivals.

The Fang warriors, now highly trained in stealth, infiltration, and assassination, are often regarded as the kingdom's best shadow operatives, moving through the darkness unseen, and striking with deadly efficiency. They have developed a network of spies, assassins, and agents that operate in the heart of the kingdom, ensuring that the Fang’s influence remains powerful, if not always visible.

The Pack: Alpha Bonding and Modern Warfare

The Fang continue to practice their Alpha Bonding techniques, where members of their clan bond to an Alpha, and their magical powers are enhanced as a result. These packs are closely-knit and operate as elite squads within the Fang’s military arm. The Alpha—a chosen leader of immense magical and physical capability—guides their pack with an iron fist, and the pack members become extensions of their will.

Their combat style focuses on agility and lethality, often using light, flexible armor and daggers or short swords to strike swiftly and silently. The Fang are masters of stealth combat, able to navigate urban environments or dense forests with the same deadly efficiency.

Culture and Beliefs:

Survival Through Adaptation:

The Fang’s culture is built around the principle of survival. They view the world as hostile and believe that only the strongest survive. Their history of near extinction has shaped them into a society that values adaptability and strength above all else. The Alpha is revered as the ultimate symbol of strength, and the pack is the foundation of their society. Loyalty to the pack is absolute, and those who cannot keep up with the pack are left behind.

The Fang also have a deep connection to their wolf ancestors, though they hide this from the general public, fearing it would lead to their mistrust. To the outside world, they are simply elites—masters of combat and deception. But to themselves, they are a people of the night, wolves in human skin, who still carry the legacy of the dire wolf in their blood.

House Fang, with its dark past and terrifying present, remains one of the most complex and mysterious noble families in Banana. They walk a fine line between honor and terror, making them both invaluable allies and deadly enemies.
