The Isle of Oakhaven

Geography & Appearance

The Isle of Oakhaven lies off the northern trade routes of Banana, surrounded by a sea tinted orange by mineral runoff and citrus pollen. Rolling hills dominate the interior, broken by orderly farmland and scattered groves of orange trees. Long stretches of cotton fields ripple like snowdrifts when the wind blows in from the coast.

Stone villages dot the island, built low and sturdy against storms. Many structures show signs of age—patched roofs, scorched walls, half-rebuilt watchtowers. From a distance, Oakhaven still appears prosperous.

Up close, it is silent.

Black pirate banners hang from hilltop palisades and harbor towers. Cannon nests overlook fields rather than open water. Roads are patrolled. Bells once used to mark harvests now signal curfews.

Oakhaven Before the Occupation

Before its fall, Oakhaven was known for three exports:

  • Salt-cured pork, prized for long voyages

  • High-grade cotton, used in sailcloth and uniforms

  • Citrus preserves, traded throughout Banana

The island held no standing military force, relying instead on neutrality and trade. Its people were farmers, ranchers, dockhands, and craftsmen—capable, but unarmed.

That vulnerability was exploited.

The Occupation

Rise of Control

Oakhaven fell not to invasion, but to containment.

Ships arrived one by one. Trade slowed. Harbors were seized. Leadership vanished. Within weeks, the island was surrounded, its ports chained, its hills fortified. Resistance was met swiftly and publicly.

No kingdom answered the calls for aid.

Reinheart Blake

Title

  • Self-Styled Governor of Oakhaven

  • Captain of the Iron Brand (unofficial designation)

Profile

Reinheart Blake is a human captain of severe discipline and absolute control. He is not theatrical, not loud, and not reckless. He does not indulge in chaos.

He enforces order.

Blake is a master of firearms, trained beyond the level of common soldiers. Pistols, longarms, and precision weapons are tools he maintains obsessively. He favors clean kills, long sightlines, and overwhelming suppression.

He does not miss often.

Disposition

Cold. Methodical. Unyielding.

Blake does not rule through drunken brutality or impulsive violence. His cruelty is deliberate. Every punishment is meant to teach. Every execution is meant to be remembered.

He believes fear is the purest form of stability.

Crimes

Under Reinheart Blake’s rule, Oakhaven is subjected to:

  • Systematic slavery, binding entire villages to agricultural labor

  • Sexual violence, used as punishment and control

  • Public executions, staged to discourage resistance

  • Murder of dissenters, including elders and former leaders

These acts are not hidden. They are enforced openly.

The Iron Brand (Occupying Crew)

Composition

Blake’s crew consists of:

  • Veteran pirates

  • Former mercenaries

  • Gunmen trained in coordinated fire

Their numbers are modest, but their discipline is absolute.

Structure

  • Reinheart Blake: Supreme authority

  • Gunnery Lieutenants: Enforce order, control patrols

  • Overseers: Manage slave labor and production quotas

  • Dock Wardens: Regulate all sea traffic

Disobedience is met with immediate, visible consequences.

Tactics

  • Elevated firing positions across hills and towers

  • Overlapping fields of fire near villages and docks

  • Controlled access to food and medicine

  • Informant networks among the enslaved

Escape is rare. Revolt is crushed early.

Economy Under Occupation

Oakhaven still produces—but none of it benefits its people.

  • Cotton is shipped north through pirate routes

  • Pork is salted and sold to private buyers

  • Citrus exports are taxed brutally

The island survives at the bare minimum necessary to keep labor alive.

Connection to the Lost Armada

Reinheart Blake is not a leader within Tortuga or the Lost Armada, but he operates with their tolerance.

  • Uses their smuggling routes

  • Pays in coin, goods, and silence

  • Avoids direct conflict with pirate elders

As long as Oakhaven remains profitable, Blake is ignored.

Atmosphere & Daily Life

  • Curfews enforced at dusk

  • Bells mark work shifts, not time

  • Armed patrols move constantly

  • Civilians avoid eye contact

Hope exists only in whispers.

Reinheart Blake as an Adversary

Blake is not a brute to be overwhelmed.

He is:

  • Patient

  • Accurate

  • Tactical

He studies opponents. He chooses terrain. He retreats when needed. Any confrontation with him is calculated, punishing, and lethal.

He does not underestimate challengers.

Current State

Oakhaven remains occupied, productive, and broken.

Ships pass by without stopping. Kingdoms look away. Pirates profit quietly.

Reinheart Blake rules unchallenged—for now.
